Does anyone know a good pediatrician in the Waterloo or Columbia area? We moved here over a year ago and still drive to Edwardsville to take my kids to the doctor. It would be so much easier if we could just go to one around here but I really haven't done any research to find one yet. Any help would be great!

My kids have been seeing Dr. Hodel with Progressive Family Care http://www.pfcil.com/ . She's very thorough and up front and honest, all three of which I like. We've been pleased with her care.

Ok so I've done some research on both of these physicians. They both look pretty good but what I would like to know from people is who would you take your kid to for ADHD. Dr. Hodel's website specifically talks about ADHD and Dr. Cangas' doesn't. I've seen negative comments about Dr. Cangas but none about Dr. Hodel. I realize these comments could be just someone that doesn't like him personally so I'm not going to base any decision on those. I'm just trying to pick the best doc for my kids. Thanks!!

I used Dr. Cangas for a while, and while he was okay with my kids, he is a very judgemental man when it comes to the parents. If he sees you out to dinner or something and you are having a drink, he will let you know exactly how he feels about parents drinking alcohol. Even if your kids are not present at the time you are having a drink. He's an okay doctor, but I'll have no one telling me that I'm a bad mom because I'm out maybe once a month without my kids having a drink and unwinding a little bit. That's my mother's job.

Thats ridiculous! If you take care of your kids and then get a babysitter you DESERVE a drink if thats what you want. Sheesh. I could see it, if you were out with your kids drunk off your ass.

Which is what I told him when we had our face to face. He was totally shocked that at picnics and functions around town they serve alcohol. Said these were events for the kids, not for the parents, and that alcohol should not be involved at all. I was amazed. I don't condone drinking and driving, or getting drunk around your kids, or drinking and driving with your kids in the car...but damnit!...I work 40 hours a week and then come home to be a full time single mom to 3 kids and sometimes I need A FREAKIN DRINK!!!

Wow. That's crazy! I've heard of speaking your mind to someone before but that just seems a little over the top. There is nothing wrong with having a drink every now and then as long as it doesn't affect your ability to care for your kids. I mean you are an adult!

thats funny that he would say somthing about you drinking, i seem to remember hearing that he has an aweful lot of DUIs and doesn't have a drivers licence because of this.. seems like the pot calling the kettle black.

I may be wrong but I thought Cangus had a DUI a little while after he had his front yard scuffle but before his affair with a patient's mother. We quit going to him because of his snide remarks and were made in front of my kids. Now traveling to Waterloo to see Hodel.

Wow....not only is that unprofessional but totally inappropriate to say stuff in front of the kids. I'm leaning more towards Hodel myself. How do you like her as a doctor? Do your kids like going to her?

She is very good witht he kids and very thorough. Took my older child for a school sports/camp physical because she does not like to sign off on those 10 minute physicals they do in a 'physical clinic'. She does like to let you know the most updated vaccines, etc to think about if you want your child to have them and covers all the bases. Likes to keep you very informed. Not a 15 visit for a reg visit either. Very matronly. Hope this helps.

I was very excited to hear there was a new peditrician in Columbia, so of course I went to see Dr. Cangas when my child got sick. I felt that he was not very sure of himself. He told me that my child just had allergies and it would run its course. We went back 2 days later because he got worse, but he still kept to his diagnosis. After the he got worse through the night I decided to take him to his old peditrician and my child had pneumonia. He had to be on antibiotics and a breathing treatment. He is not a good doctor!! I have been seeing Dr.Hodel eversince and I really like her. The only thing is she is slow because she checks everything out.

I have first hand experience with Dr. Cangas he gave my little girl Focalin XR for ADHD and she had a psycotic break I was scared to death. He had no buisness giving my daughter that medicine. When I asked him what he knew about it he was like uh I don't know much sorry this was after she freaked out on me! Then he wanted to feed her more meds and I told him NO!! She now is seeing Dr. Raza a professional psyciatrist. Also Dr. Cangas has a whole police history of drinking and driving and bar fights! He is no good! This is not just trying to bash it is the truth!

I once went to an appointment with my child and he had a big black eye also from being in a bar fight! Do a background check on him. He is not all what he seems and yes it is true he lost his license for to many DUI'S.
