I bought a house from ca jones 3 years ago in Stonefield right in front of vandebrook. I have a drainage ditch behind my house that backs up about 10 feet into my yard everytime that it rains. CA JONES came out and half ass fixed it after fighting with them for a month, but it still backs up into my yard as well as everyone elses. I am trying to get a petition going so I can take it to the city and see if we can get anything done that way. If you have had any problems with these builders before or are someone that is affected by a drainage ditch in Stone field please let me know. I have a daycare out of my home and we cant even play outside for days after it rains because the water level is so high. I am scared that my child as well as other children will seriously hurt themselves because of this. If anyone has any advice please let me know. Thanks.

Like you we also bought a CA Jones house 2 years ago. We live in Dupo and have had nothing but problems with our house. We have fought with them time and time again. I wish there was a way that we could do something about it but I don't think there is. We just got our streets fixed after months of driving through potholes. I know what you are feeling. If you find anything out about what we can do please let me know.
Thanks

I totaly agree with ya. Are sub pump pumps water into r back yard not even 3 ft away from the house. Are whole back yard is always flooded. The water keeps leaking back into the sub pump and it just keeps pumping it in the same spot causeing are back yard to flood. I can't even mow my grass until it drys out and i have been waiting for over a month now. Then are front door was put in up side down so they have to take the whole door frame and turn it up right which was over a year and a half ago and still hasn't been fixed.

It is just shocking that there would be ANY problem with the amazing, wonderful, quality-built, dwellings constructed in a 150 day timeframe (or less) and built primarily of vinyl and chipboard. Just shocking I tell you. In this country, the past five to ten year period of time has been the high water mark for craftsmanship where the construction of single family dwellings is concerned. Ive no crystal ball, but my guess is that well not see this level of high quality again in our lifetimes.

Well a 1500 mortgage without taxes or insurance included you kind of expect some type of quality.

Many people moved to the area and got wrapped up with bad builders. I feel sorry for you and hope the problems get solved. If you want to build the best are Dennis Brand, Steve Frank and the Doerr bros. I wouldn't trust any others in the Waterloo area.

Now, if in fact this statement really came from CAJONES, this should go to the media.

Goodness! I would hope that this isn't CA Jones. This isn't a good way to get future business. Of course, neither is building poor quality homes if this is true.

You should try buying homes from local builders with good references instead of buying the cheap homes that get thrown up by out of town fly by nighters. But hey at least you saved yourself some money.

I thought that was part of the purpose for all of those wonderful building codes that are written and enforced by our enlightened leaders... for protection of the consumer...

My name is Meghan Stumpf and I am sales manager for C. A. Jones, Inc. and I would like to start off by saying that we DID NOT post anything under the name CAJONES nor would we ever speak to anyone, client or not, in that matter. We do not condone behavior of this sort and have forwarded this bulletin to our lawyer and have also notified the police. As I have stated in previous posts, we will examine any warranty claims or complaints that are sent to the office at 8814 Summer Road, Columbia IL 62236. Also feel free to call us directly at 6 1 8 9 3 9 7 9 2 7.

Thanks

First intelligent comment I've seen on topix in more than a year. Thanks Meghan, and good luck to the homeowners getting their issues resolved.

C.A Jones is just another JLP. When my wife and I were looking to buy our first house we obviously looked at quite a few. There was not one C.A. Jones or JLP house that lived up to our expectations. It's really just sad that people who put their names on this type of construction have no morals. Personally, if I was going to put my name on something and then try to sell it I would make damn sure that what I am selling is of high quality. There are a few good builders in the area and if you pay attention they are not hard to find. Just in case here a couple, STS Custom Homes (Columbia, mainly larger more expensive homes but very good workmanship), VOGT (Waterloo, a little pricey for the size but also very good workmanship)

CA Jones built my home about 4 years ago. We had many issues immediately after construction was completed and some of them were addressed, however some were not and the multiple requests that were made to CA Jones Inc were basically ignored. Meghan would like you to believe that all you have to do is submit a warranty claim and they will show up to your house with bells on to perform the repair. The reality is that IF they do show up they will then proceed to screw things up even further. Below are a few of the issues that I have encountered.

1. Our house was built during an especially rainy period and we were very concerned that the floors would warp due to the roof not being in place. We were right, the floors did squeak and pop and in some places the seams in the floor were visible through the carpet and tile. CA Jones did fix this issue, however the process that was used is very questionable. Driving small headed screws into the floor through the carpet is certainly not the textbook method for resolving this problem. In the areas where vinyl flooring was used CA Jones got a new sheet of vinyl from Custom Floors (a Good Company) and then proceeded to drive screws through the old flooring and laid a new sheet down over the old flooring. This is a fine solution until you want to put ceramic tile in or even just replace the vinyl. Not to mention that the baseboard that was installed was supposed to be painted shortly after it was installed, guess what ... that was never done.

2. Like Jenna, I too live in Stonefield and have a drainage problem. The back of my property floods every time it rains and usually doesn't dissipate for a few days. The "Lake" will not be as evident after a day but it is still a swamp and impossible to mow let alone grow grass. I have raised this issue with CA Jones and they have repeatedly been unwilling to do anything to solve the problem. I advised them that a "French Drain" would probably be the best solution. I was told that CA Jones doesn't like French Drains and that they would never put one in regardless of whether or not it was the correct solution. So, nothing was done and I still have a drainage issue. Four of the properties that are adjacent to me have the same issue.

3. During construction it is always a good idea to check in on the builder periodically. Especially when the builder is CA Jones, if I had not been there almost every day there is no telling how many closets would just not exist Seriously, they forgot a couple of closets when framing my house. Yes, they fixed the problem but the customer should not have to supervise the construction of their home, that is what we pay them for.

4. Even though I was present to double check their work I was not able to check everything. The service door in my garage was not secured with nails or screws and one windy day the door slammed and the whole frame and door ended up in my backyard. I was pretty pissed off but I decided to fix it myself in order to avoid further aggravation from dealing with CA Jones. About a week later I was putting a few things into storage in my attic over the garage. When I lifted my butt onto the 2x4 framing around the "Scuddle Hole" my ass nearly fell to the floor. I know this sounds funny and I'm sure that it was pretty entertaining to watch, but the fact is that CA Jones once again neglected to put a few nails in. How many other places did they forget to drive a nail? This time I called CA Jones and had them come out and fix it. They did a fine job the second time around, it's a shame that they need two shots to get it right.

5. The last issue does not directly involve my home, but it involves the vacant lot in Stonefield that I think is supposed to be common ground. My understanding is that CA Jones didn't set up the Homeowners Association properly and now we have an empty weed infested lot to deal with.

Thank you Mr. Jones.
