Only shortage is drivers that are willing to work for nothing, I started 24 yrs ago at .22 per mile, cost of everything has tripled since than at least, pay for a starting driver hasnot even doubled. So no real shortage just between the regulations and pay scale, and traffic the average drivers pay has decreased not increased in 24 yrs, not even caculating in the fact that most companys want you to live in the truck for weeks on end, when i started most guys stayed out 3 weeks and home for a week, not this out for 3 weeks and home 3 days if that.

Fortunately havent been over the road since 2003 but since the oilfield has taken a nosedive I had to go back over the road for a major carrier. First few days stayed in close contact with a few guys from orientation. All were already going through ridiculous trouble with dispatch and safety. All including myself all ended up quitting within a couple of weeks. Call it conspiracy theories or what have you but one driver told me something that made alot of sense. He said the big companies want you to quit so they can rehire over and over and tell uncle sam they are hiring thousands and using that as a tax shelter???
I dont know how much truth there is to that but if true its not right.
