I am a long time resident and volunteer firefighter in Waterford. I am sorry for everyone's loss of belongings and wish there was some way that I could help from down here in Miami.

My daughter and her family are one of the families who are now homeless as the result of this tragedy. The Red Cross came to her aid and gave her shelter for 3 days and money for food and some clothes. We thank them profusely. The problem is... what do they do after that? Social Services and other agencies are turning them away. What are all these people supposed to do? They don't have anything at all now. Social Services says they need to be homeless without a job before they can help them. What are we paying taxes for anyway? Doesn't this situation call for Social Services?

My sympathies to the families for their loss. I had a fire in 1975 that destroyed everything material thing in our possession. Thank God our lives were spared. It's hard starting over but, with the support of families and friends, it can happen. Be greatful that you still have your lives and thank goodness for The Red Cross! They were there for me too!

We were walking down the street to our car (while my daughter's house was burning) to take her little girl home. She was crying hysterically. A woman stopped us and offered some comfort. She ran in the house and got her little boy who in turn gave my grand daughter a stuffed animal. I only know this woman's first name. It is Kelly. She told us if we needed anything she would be glad to help. She was very serious and almost crying herself. I was very touched by her sincerity and thanked her.
She actually did help by getting my daughter an apartment. I am now convinced that there are angels on this earth. What a wonderful person. She not only cared but helped us in the most important way she could. We cannot thank her enough!
