I have had a gun permit for years but I think now women are getting one for protection. The criminal and drug related crimes are way up and the criminals have no respect for the elderly or women. There used to be an unwritten oath among criminals not to hurt women or children or the elderly but that has gone out the window. The criminals need stiffer punishment and made to do their whole sentence.

I've had a gun permit for over 10 years and I took the course and occasionally go to an indoor range to practice. You can't be too cautious these days when there are so many desperate criminals and drug addicts on the loose, and women are easier targets for them than men. If I go to a mall or a grocery store alone, especially holiday shopping, I'm never really alone, my 38 is with me. If you are attacked, shoot first and ask questions later. These days it's survival of the fittest, some of these scumbags will kill you for a dollar.

Soon everyone will have Handgun or at least a Rifle. It is the current reality. Rather unfortunate but nonetheless a necessary reality. There are lots of "Bad Guys" out there. It is about time women stepped up and are taking steps to protect themselves. Bravo Women...

This is good news that people are waking up out of their fog and realizing that when you are threatened with immediate bodily harm there's not going to be time to dial 911 and wait for the police. You have the absolute right under article 15 of the CT Constitution "to bear arms in defense of himself and the state" and him = plural not just men. As long as there are bad people in the world looking to do you harm or rob you there's a place on my hip for something that says "Not so fast".

Some family members have their permits. I get followed home a lot by guys now and it's starting to freak me out. A person should be allowed to walk somewhere without getting harassed. I remember once I went in a grocery store and this guy stopped me and insisted I come with him. I just stood there like a dear in headlights before telling him to scram. I think with too many women, including myself,we're cursed with the politeness gene that just causes us to freeze or be nice. I believe we should be allowed to bear arms, but personally, just for myself,I don't think I could ever use one. I would like to take Krav Maga though, or some form of self defense.

Women have equal rights to bear arms. I think it's time for more women to get their gun permits. I got mine a couple of years ago, but I hope I never have to use my gun to defend myself. However, if it ever comes down to it, I will use it, no doubt in my mind. Go apply for a permit, take the classes and practice at a range and you'll get the confidence you need. Above all, keep it well hidden away from kids if you have any.

I thought about taking target practice. I just also want to take some form of self defense so I can be a ninja if I have to.

The only problem with a course in self-defense is that you can be shot, stabbed or overpowered before you really have a chance to use that skill. Besides, in your own best interest, do you really want to get that close to your attacker? Get a permit and a gun, you'll be better off that way rather than trying to fight off an attacker.

Oh I know, what you're saying totally makes sense. I just wanted to try both options. I do want to take target practice. It's a good idea.

Connecticut Sam and I agree that it is not a good idea people having guns, because many times, people get upset and kill their friends and family members. Pepper Spray and Mace is better.

Its a good thing to learn both but the criminals do not have to get close enough to you that you can use martial arts when they have a gun. Pepper spray does nothing againt a gun.Hopefully you will never have to use either.

Always try for ahead shot. Better yet two head shots. they are dead and cannot testify.Nothing like a good equalizer to even things up.Iknow the police don't want you cutting in on union work , but hey what can you do.
