Hahahaha. We moved there a few months ago, the city is disgusting. I took my kids to the playground in Bunker Hill and there were parents there doing drugs while their very young children were playing. This is the WORST city I have EVER lived in. Who ever wrote this article is an idiot. I can't wait to move. Someone stole our sons bike and toys the first week we lived there, from our back yard. What a joke!!

We've had homeless people beg us for money while grocery shopping then watch them go buy crack, had to change schools because our kids getting abused by others, went to a dealership to buy a car and had to listen to the employees yell obscenities to eachother for 20 mins then get on their cell phones and call their family about it in front of me before I even got a greeting. I haven't had ONE good experience in Waterbury. We live there and that's it. Our health care, work and recreation is elsewhere. Can't wait to move!!

This place is sickening. Its a toxic waste dump is socially parasitic filth that should be bleached off the face of CT. Out of the past 5 mayors, three are serving or did serve FEDERAL sentences. Absolutely disgusting. Get out while you can, then cyanide gas the rest.

I grew up in Waterbury in the sixties - it was a different place then. When I was 11, my friend and I would take the bus from the south end to downtown to take dance lessons at a dance studio on Bank Street. Imagine letting your kids do that today! Today, no matter where you live, you need to watch everything your children do!
The suburbs of Connecticut are certainly safer places that the cities but I would chose to live in Waterbury rather than New Haven, Bridgeport, Stamford, or even Meriden.
The school system in Waterbury needs improvement and its school buildings are desperately in need of repair. So I certainly wouldn't move to Waterbury if I had school age kids who would be attending public school.
I haven't lived in Waterbury since the seventies but my mom lived there until a few years ago. Today I live in a great town with an excellent school district and low crime but it also happens to be the place where the worst CT crime of the decade occurred.
I was born there and my parents lived there. It was a different place and time.

Much of Waterbury is post industrial brownfield. The brass city smelters melted a lot of heavy metals. The fumes rested all over the city. Waterbury clock factories contaminated the soils with uranium.Pipes spewed god knows what into the rivers and when floods come spread the toxic crud into the streets. Many people there hanging around looking "lazy" .They are not lazy, they are tired. Before you move to a city, check out how many dialysis clinics are there. That is the best way to see how toxic a place is. Still, I miss The Filthy Ox. The prostitutes helped out my mother one time too-now thats a sign of a good city!

They should make all the criminals come into town and scrub the streets of the bad neighborhoods on their hands and knees, pick up all the garbage, plant trees, paint and fix up houses where somebody cant afford to and put in playgrounds for the kids. Repaying your debt to society doesn't mean you should be let to sit around all day watching TV.

I'd like to thank everyone for posting up comments and concerns about Waterbury CT as a place and environment and I don't discriminate against my city there are things that happen daily and it happens every where. If you never lived here to know then don't comment and keel what you've heard to yourself I have been the mayor of Waterbury for some time now and I don't point fingers but we live in a world that no were is safe ! Things happen every were you can live in a city or suburd it really doesn't make a difference. Waterbury has many funds for making a difference and look out side the box NOT in meaning don't judge from what you see if you lived here as I you can always change and be a better person it's you that makes places worse from the choices but I believe every child in Wtby are bright and very intelligent children especially public schools we have a wider variety of kids and the world us filled with diffrences you CAN'T live putting people with there same kind you must look out into a bigger beginning because you can't always have what you want I believe if you experience the greatness on Wtby u can really think diffrent instead if things you heard on the news look above your city is innocent ither ! We live in a world of crimes so be it we still have to live it otherwise one person can't change how another feels just remember your free to your own opinion at anytime

To mayor jujura with all due respect I dont really think you did anything for our public schools at all I have been a school teacher for six years and the school is suppose to fund us supplies as a teacher for the new school year but it doesn't we must pay out out own pockets as this being my Job I feel things should be supplied as for the kid there are some who are so disrespectful and even several tried to out there hands on me I am one teacher but speak for all don't get me wrong I enjoy my job a whole lot especially making a Childs day but now you have kids who come in a throw books , curse you out , raise there hands the school systems in Wtby need to change personally I'd rather work with my ACE students then the others who seem not to have disapline

I Was Born & Raised I'm Waterbury so for both of my parents & I must say Waterbury is NOT a place where you should raise a family. Growing up on the rough side of Waterbury is why I have my reasons. I remember me & my little cousin walking to the North Main Corner Store & we almost stepped on a needle, I remember going to the parks & finding dime bags (bags that hold weed or crack) & needles near the slide, I remember looking outside my window & watching a big group if people fighting with bats, I remember watching the crack heads across the street fighting on they porch. When I was a kid my bike had got stolen numerous times ! The crack heads across the street broke in to my moms car TWICE IN THE SAME WEEK just to steal 3 damn dollars ! My dad was a drug dealer & my mom was addicted to both drugs & alcohol all because thats all there was in the rough streets of Waterbury, you was either a drug dealer, a pimp, or a addict ! & as for the schools, I remember being in 6th grade & seeing girls walk around pregnant, I remember in 3rd grade I got punched in my face by a boy cause I was trying to stop him from hitting the teacher AGAIN ! I went to wilby high school & EVERYBODY KNOWS thats a run down school, I know a teacher who sells drugs on the side, the books has no covers on them, all people did in wilby was fight ! Waterbury isn't entirely a bad place to live but it all depends on what part you live in & your experience in the city & because I had lived in the rough side & experienced the bad stuff thats why I say its not a place to raise a family. There is NOTHING in Waterbury, no where to go & nothing positive to do ! I'm so grateful that my mom took us out of Waterbury & let us see life outside of it. Half oh the kids I was once friends with are either locked up, drug dealers, teenage moms, & high school dropouts or dead. I'm proud to say that I'm not one :) If you lived in the rough side of Waterbury (North Main, South Main, Willow, Long Hill Projects, Lakewood Projects, Bishop Street, etc) then you now what I'm taking about !

You named some of the worst spots in waterbury jazmine how about town plot, bunker hill, colombia blvd, the golf club, east mountain i can name more. Waterbury is not the worst place. Not the best but not the worst. Anyhow how could a place get better when you have a bunch of haters hating on it. If you said it was the best place you would have an influx of good people buying more homes,it would get better, lol just doesnt make any sense.I hope you and your negativity moved out.

New york got That too, florida got that too. You can names any state, but u konw what they fixed most of it and it gets better sometimes.I grew up in Astoria, queens Ny which I think is one of the best cities in the country in my opinion. My neighborhood was great but it also had some of the biggest drug dealers living there too. Waterbury got some nickle and dime small time guys they are easy to catch. They stick out like a sore thumb.this place i easy, you get rid of that then you have some bautiful homes, astoia is a city right outside manhattan. Not all the houses are pretty theree but its all about the neighborhood and then everybody comes. You can rent somebody a cardboard box there and theyll take, just take out all the TRASH.

by the way, I also know many Waterbury police officers and they dont let their teens shop at the mall there..I dont let mine and they dont go to the movies there either..there is a lot that goes on that we dont read about in the paper. Personally I think that mall is a dump..filled with crap stores. How many cell phone stores, shoe stores do we really need?
Next time you run into your police officer friends, why don't you ask them why they don't do their jobs. Thanks.

Excuse me, but I, as a 16 year old living IN WATERBURY, must say that all of you rude people are well...quite frankly, rude. How dare you bash Waterbury for actually becoming a better town? Excuse me, but as a young adult in this city, and as a current student at Crosby High School, our city has come together in many ways to make sure we have clean-up days and to make sure we have events for teens as well as many other activities that I'm sure all of you townie parents send your children to attend. I'm in the ACE[Academic Choice for Excellence] program at Crosby and you know what? I believe I'm getting an excellent education, and I believe that all of my teachers are some of the best teachers I will have in life. I believe that growing up in a diverse city has expanded my outlook on the way people live and the way that everyone has different morals and traditions. How many parents on here can say that their children have a wide diverse group of friends? Not many, I assume. And I roughly estimate that a good percentage of you have not lived in Waterbury, or have lived here 10 years ago or whatever. Honestly, unless you currently live IN WATERBURY and send your child/children to a PUBLIC SCHOOL then I can see where your opinion might come from. But to all who just say what they HEAR, well I pity you because who believes rumors now-a-days? Oh, and don't give me the story about "Oh I heard this on the news.." and "Oh the news states this..." and blah blah blah. If the news told you to go and jump off a cliff, would you do it? And the reason why Waterbury gets caught for all that they do is because of a bigger population that Waterbury has. I'm sure if Wolcott, Cheshire, Seymour, Ansonia, Fairfield, and any other little snooty town had a big population, then other small cities would be talking the same indecent & ignorant comments as some of the users here. I am the future of Waterbury, as well as this country and I will NOT TOLERATE people who have no respect for my city. I'm proud to call Waterbury my home and Crosby my high school. As a smart young woman, I plan on becoming a great person in this jumble of an economy, and cracking the barriers that you people sterotype Waterbury as.
Congrats Waterbury! Finally, we're becoming a city that we deserve to become.
I love this!! Good for you sweetheart!!😊

Daily Horoscope for June 19

Leo

You need to vary your domestic routine slightly today to avoid feeling bored or restless, especially if the day threatens to be rather predictable. Think of ways to introduce a note of spontaneity into the proceedings, even if they're very minor, because they'll make you feel more lively and on the ball. If you're going shopping you'll be tempted by some impulse buys.
