3 have to agree with you on that one, let J.C. keep them and let them stay over there. C.C. needs something better than what they have to offer |

They all want to be the big dog on the block, but that set of Johnson City officers reminds me of a pack of "perfumed poodles." Now in that pack of perfumed poodles there are short ones, and fluffy ones, fat ones and skinny ones and really frisky overly friendly ones that always seem to want to latch onto your leg every time they get near ya (yeah, yeah, I like you too, now get off me you're messing up my pants leg). All of them are adorned with their gold inlaid collars, their nails well manicured, hair trimmed just so, and their perfume sure does smell purty. And they prance around with their noses up in the air, sniffing each others, well you know, trying to figure out who amongst them is going to be the big dog and run for sheriff, all the while tsk, tsking over us 'po folk over here in Carter County...and all the deputies know it takes a half dozen Johnson City officers to make a decision on a call...;) Ain't a big dog in the bunch tho. |

5 You're right Agree, I miss the good ole days when a man could go over to the sheriff's department and lose a couple of hundred dollars playing gin rummy in the sally port. I miss not seein' the deputies with the tobaccy spittle drippin' down their chins and their shirts half stickin' up out of their pants. And those pants, always a couple sizes too small so they could show off them purty bellies hangin' over that there duty belt that looked like it had been through a meat grinder. And how them boys could make them boots look like they been mowin' the yard all day is beyond my thinkin'. And those sweat stains in the armpits of them shirts is somehting I'll just never forget. Ah yes, the good ole' days. Damn them city boys for comin' over here and trying to purty things up a little so we might have a little of what they call professionalism over yonder in Johnson City. And you hit the nail right on the head, Agree. Why do they need six of them purty boys to make the right decision when alls we need is one to make a wrong decision? Don't make no sense, no siree. Ah, the good ole days. |

1 Dear Mr. Johnson City Po-lice Officer Carpet Bagger wanna be, I hope you didn’t break one of your well-manicured fingernails typing out your indignant response. I’m surprised you could even see the computer screen havin to look down your nose so far. But rest assured, we ‘po Carter County folks sure do appreciate your self-righteous concern. I am sure taking the time to write such an insightful piece on the history of county law enforcement probably made you late for your hair appointment with your beautician. Thank you for your sacrifice. We 'po ole county folk' can somehow manage on our own without a bunch of condescending big city carpet baggers with yankee attitudes looking down their noses at us. But, I guess since you've lived in the big city, and y'all are so much smarter than we, we will anxiously await on the edge of our seat for your next snippet of big city JCPD wisdom. |

1 Wow, what a crapload of baseless assumptions. I was born, raised, and continue to live and work in "po Carter County." I have watched three lovely daughters graduate the CC school systems just as my dear wife and I did many years ago. I am not a police officer and I have never had a desire to be one. I guess I am considered one of those uppity Carter Countians because I strive to see the county, particularly the sheriff's department, better itself. If we were so capable of taking care of ourselves, why did it take a couple of JC boys to come over here and stand up to our idiot commissioners to get us a new jail, new and better equipment, more cruisers, and more deputies? Damn those "carpet baggers!" You might want to get over your penis envy and realize that there are several of us "po Carter Countians" who like to see a little shake-up around here and if it takes bringing in the outsiders, so be it. |
||||
We po Carter Countians can't quite pin our hopes of big JC progress on any man that can't interpret, nor follow, a simple set of vows, or operate a simple contraceptive. But I know that’s not the type of “penis envy” you are referring to. If you are a Mathes cheerleader come on out and say so or is it Steve Smith you are cheerleading for? Mathes utterly failed as a Sheriff. He sued the citizens of the county and spent close to a million dollars of our money to get the 3 cars and couple extra deputies that he got. And that just made up for what he lost over in Watauga. He broke even and it cost us close to a million dollars, now we are a whole lot mo po than we were…them damn carpet baggers. Steve Smith I am sure is a good fella – not sure if he is a perfumed poodle or not – never got close enough to smell him. |

1 Mathes has to want all the above in the race, as its his best chance at re-election. One on one Mathes could be beaten by several of them. |

2 Whoever wrote this either doesn't know Tom or is a drugie. Tom Smith is opposite of what you just said. He is the most honest person you will ever meet in your life. He does his job better than anyone else does. He runs in to burning buildings to try to save someones life. thats more than i can say for some of the others. He takes his job to the next step and tries to make this a better and safe place to live. And no that dude is not Toms brother but if he was that guy would be really lucky. So you can talk to trash Becuase i't not true. Just because he arrested you in the past doesn't mean hold a grudge, he's just doing his job. |

And may i ask sir, how do you know Lt. Smith if you live in Piney Flats? And you are correct, everyone does get their day, and trust me, you have yours coming. |
