Is Waskom, TX so broke that they have to give out tickets for 80 in a 70? I have found no other place like this. Yesterday, while trying to get my child home to Louisiana for a doctor's appointment, I got stopped and ticketed. I was in disbelief. I tried to explain to the officer what was going on, but he continued writing. I plan on writing a letter to the judge with proof that my son was seen when we got back. Anyone think that will do any good? I guess I was the lucky one yesterday. Lord knows that everytime you come through Waskom, there is someone getting a ticket. In Louisiana, the AG is investigating these small town ticket writers.

Do the speed limit and stop whining!! 70 means 70 NOT 80. Get a vanity plate that reads: DUH

THE SPEED LIMIT IS POST AT 55 THAT MEAN YOU MUST MAINTAIN YOUR SPEED AT LEAST AT 60 TO 62 MILES HOUR ANYTHING OVER THAT MEAN YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW.BESIDE IF ARGUING ABOUT 10 MILES OVER THE SPEED LIMIT YOU MUST DRIVE FAST ALL THE TIME AND JUST GO CAUGHT.YOU WAS GOING TO THE DOCTOR NOT HOSPITAL.JUST FOLLOW THE POST MARK SPEED LIMIT SIGN AND WILL NOT GET CITATION FOR SPEEDING.GET OVER IT AND SLOW DOWN BEFORE YOU KILL YOU AND YOUR CHILD.

Well, you were going 10 miles over the posted speed limit and causing a danger to all drivers around you.
As for using your child's doctor's appointment as an excuse as the reason why you were speeding...nope, don't think that will work. If you knew you had to be there at a certain time, you could have left early enough to drive the miles to get there. And that's exactly what the judge will tell you.

Waskom is the worst speed trap I've ever encountered. Anyone who speeds through there is just asking for it. I live in Waskom and have NEVER been past on I-20 without seeing at least one person stopped. More often then that, there are two units stopping cars about a mile apart from one another.

I got stopped in Waskom on hwy 80 on Christmas Eve one year for doing 9 over.(The speed limit had just decreased and he was waiting for me.) On top of that, the guy was a total jerk.

We were driving thru fm31 on a rainy day and as I went over a bridge my truck slid off the road and landed in a ditch. My husband & I sat there in shock. Soon a police officer arrived, only to treat us like criminals. He made us get out of our truck & stand out in the cold rain. He didn't ask nicely or offer so much as a trashbag to cover our heads. He even gave us a ticket. If u ever get stopped by a short, black cowboy cop, beware!! He is a jerk. I always thought they were suppose 2 make u feel safe but boy! He proved me wrong.

Waskom cops will lie on the stand (nothing new to any city) if you fight a ticket. I went to fight my ticket and owned the officer on the stand. He had no idea how often the radar gun should be calibrated- claimed he was certified to do so, but when i asked him the procedure he stated that he "pushed the internal check button" (which only checks circuit operation). But due to the fact that I had not requested everything from the radar log, to the gun maintenance log and even the radar gun manual, I had no case. Read the fine print. 3 months had passed between the calibration and the date i got my ticket as the officer admitted, and since i didn't follow due process, nothing i said mattered. it's a sham... have fun in waskom.

I don't have a problem with the waskom cops giving tickets for 10mph OVER the speed limit. What I have the problem with is the Waskom cops letting people fly by and them waiting to pull them over just so they can chase you down at the state line to see if the Dodge Charger will catch up to you... Or them (the cops) passing you on Hwy 80 doing 80-90mph just to eat at Catfish Village. I can't tell you how many times they (WASKOM COPS) have passed me, in a NO PASSING ZONE, just to go eat... Now that is what's CRAZY!!!

Over the speed limit, is over the speed limit...face the music, get off your soap box and move on. Put your big girl, or big boy, panties on and take the blame. Gheez

So, it's the cops fault that you were speeding? In case noone noticed, there job is to, oh I don't know...write tickets. Keep people safe. Had someone else been traveling down the same road and caused an accident that you were involved in, you would be saying, "Where were the Waskom cops to slow him down?" Noone is at fault here but yourself. Don't break the law and you won't get tickets. It's that simple. Cops have a job to do just like you do. Let them do it and shut up. I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with them when they are helping you. So don't whine when they are helping other people from YOU.

I always hear these horror stories about the Waskom PD. I've been pulled over by them a few times for various reasons, and they've always been polite and professional, if a bit stern. They've also come to help me out in the few situations that I needed them, and they were there punctually and prepared. Being mad about a ticket for 80 in a 70 is about as ridiculous as feeling victimized after being arrested on a DUI charge. I'd say the Waskom PD is probably the most functional and capable thing going on in this little town.
