Question about moving To Dayton

Least to say we are tired of the crime in Las Vegas where you hear about a shooting every day and grafitti plagues every wall. We are looking at possibly moving to Dayton in about 2 years.
My spouse and I are professionals (IT and Family Counselor), have no kids and want to live rural, but still close enough to drive to a city for a restaurant or movie.
Is Dayton a good choice?

Have you ever been to Dayton? There is one movie theater in Carson City and VERY FEW decent restaurants. Granted, Dayton is growing like crazy and might meet your needs by the time you move, but around these parts we learn to cook great meals for our friends and rely heavily on Netflix.

Sounds good to us. We love to cook at home and buy all our movies from a DVD club by mail. We go to the theater about once a year. As long as there are two restaurants within 30 minutes, we are good or if there is a decent one at the golf club.
We are not city lovers. We moved to Vegas (for jobs)from Idaho so we are used to rural.
We just want a safe rural town where we can live on more that .04 acres and have grass plus be able to work somewhere (like Carson City).
Your name says you are in Reno. Do you live in Dayton ir Reno?

Odd. I went to the Carson City Visitors website and I looked up restaurants in Carson City and there are alot of decent chain places including IHOP, Applebees, etc.
And Northgate movies 10 looks like it shows alot of movies.
Dayton sounds like a nice rural area a close drive to Carson City.

My husband and I felt the same way about the Bay Area and moved to Dayton almost two years ago. So far it is the best decision we have ever made. Dayton downtown is very very small. People are very friendly and helpful and every restaurant we have been to have great meals. Traffic isn't always the greatest on 50 because of the work being done on it, but by the time two years have gone by that wouldn't be a problem. My husband is a Biomed engineer and I am a retired housewife.

Ooooo, that sounds so nice. We moved here to Vegas in 2004 for jobs and it just is so overwhelming. It takes me 40 minutes to go to work 18 miles away due to construction and traffic. I have to leave at 5:45 in the morning so that I can get there in a decent amount of time.
Granted there is a lot to do but we really dont do clubs, concerts, casinos, etc. We would rather go hiking or biking and live a quiet life where you know your neighbors. We are in our 40s and are looking to make a change in a couple years. With no kids and just a dog it would be nice.

We live in Dayton and it is a very beautiful and quite place to live. We moved here from Southern California almost 2 years ago and when we first moved here they only had a grocery store and about 3 fast food places... since then it has really grown with more eating places and they are only going to be building alot more out here. I highly recommend moving here to Dayton.
