There is so much more to this story than told. TMFPD collects taxes from me but can not provide (and does not provide) life and/or property saving response time to my area of West Washoe Valley. I depend on SFPD to provide 1st response to my medical needs as REMSA is "Best Response" which can be 20 to 30 minutes at best and TMFPD can not provide Paramedic service, but they sure like spending my tax dollars to benefit Reno under the current contract agreement. At the tax payer, I see this as an inequity to me and to the fire district providing 1st response. There are many other issues that concern me in the management of services by Washoe County. Tim Alemada personally told me that because I live in a rural area that I have to expect less service. My, I don't think the county expects less taxes because I live in West Washoe Valley (a rural area)... I am also tired of hearing that population dictates the importance of a life. This whole issue raises many concerns with management of tax payer services and allowing Reno to mangage the fire service would be a poor decision by the County Commission/Board of Fire Commissioner. They (Reno) can't even manage Reno services without propery tax support by "rural" Nevadans and TMFPD stations/staff; and look at the population pool of Reno!!! Reno want the revenue but don't what to be accountable for supplying appropriate services. I, for one, am very angry with this whole issue and the lack of honesty within the ranks of government and county staff. I am willing to pay the SFPD tax base to have paramedic services in West Washoe Valley as would my neighbors. There are acceptable solutions to this issue but there are too many political games going on and County Commissioners rely on staff that are selling them a package of soiled goods.
