Most Americans support gun regulations and an assault weapons ban. The democrats had a million more votes than republicans in the 2012 house election. They are supported by more people. Just because the republicans side is louder doesn't mean they're right. No one is going to come take your guns. We just want some common sense gun laws. It keeps happening. It's only a matter of time until it hits home. Shouldn't we at least try to save American lives?

and just what would common sense gun laws be? Have you ever bought a gun? Background checks already have to be ran, your purchase is registered, and the average person can't even afford to spend a day at the range learning actual gun control because the taxes on firearms/ammunition is outrageous. What good will it do to ban so called "assault rifles" or limit magazine capacity to 7? The shooting in Connecticut was a tragedy, but did you know Connecticut already has a "assault weapons" ban? Also, the legislation that just passed in NY limiting magazine capacity to 7 was rushed through by liberal over-reactionists and forgot to exempt law enforcement, whose standard side arm has a capacity over 7. yes, because that is common sense.

abortion is not the same. You are taking away from the horror of these tragedies. No one gets a abortion without guilt or remorse. You can't change the subject anymore. You are not in the majority. How does it feel to be a minority? It isn't very fun is it? Just try to have some dignity during your fall from grace gun owner. It's pitiful.

State assault weapons ban don't matter when all you have to do is drive 6 hours to a gun show to purchase one. Background checks should include mental history, and the records should be kept not destroyed. Insurance wouldn't be a bad idea for gun owners either. You just hold on to your gun, aka your phallus, and let the real men and women deal with this nonsense. You will survive without your assault rifle. Some children won't survive the next slaughter. Have some compassion and stop being a paranoid pussy.

Lets just give up our guns. The government will be there to protect us every time a criminal tries to kill us. We can trust the government. They have never been dishonest.
Obama Hitler has our best interests at heart. Everyone knows that more than 7 people should never be killed at a time, we must limit clips to that.
The guns Obama was selling to Mexican drug cartels held more than 7 bullets but the Mexican druggies are more responsible than Americans.

The masses are being frightened. This "gun law" will be rushed through congress.

I'm not sure what the stipulations are, what are they getting at? can cops only have 7 bullets? i keep trying to research it but i can't stop from going on tangents.

A deranged psycho doesnt need an assault rifle to slaughter children, look at Tim McVeigh. He is another example: The first mass killing of schoolchildren in the US, which took place in the small town of Bath, Michigan, in 1927, and left 45 people dead, including 38 children. An eccentric farmer named Andrew Kehoe, upset about an increase in property taxes meant to pay for the new Bath Consolidated School, spent months packing the school with dynamite. He set it off on the morning of May 18 with a timed detonator.

I agree with background checks and closing loopholes, but banning assault weapons will not stop crazy people from killing. It will make you feel like you did something, but in reality it accomplishes nothing other than taking rights away from law abiding gun owners.

The only constant in this short life is change!.

change can be good or bad -balance is most often included in the healthier change -to swing one way or another toooo far is most often calamatus/damaging to a positive social fabric.

We are not talking about social security or medicare which have been paid for as they have been already taken from peoples earnings..

But changing to a largely ,slovenly, uneducated dependent nation overwhelmed by children w/o fathers in the home -largely unwed single mothers often with multiple kids -many with no real education or means to take care of them-not only causes social chaos[look at our overburdened jails]-but also economic chaos as smaller proportions of working people are being forced to economically subsidize all--'these babies mommas daddies and other daddies babies mammas, etc, etc,

I am not begrudging people who need temporary help and use some welfare services to better educate themselves for a period of time. BUT-there are scores of deadbeats out there who feel entitled to sit home and watch Springer or Maury Povich's comedy of horrors while collecting more"FREE TO THEM" money for each bastard child they produce on hard working peoples backs. It is morally wrong for this permanent dependecy to exist for lazy people with little self control-[of all races]-it will exponentially spreadlike rabid cancer

This is the type of change that will bring the U.S. closer and ever closer to 3rd world type living..making the new majority[a sheep voting block] but ever truly dumber and ever more dependent w/o incentive to go out and survive on their own at higher more personally rewarding levels in this short earthly life,

This is change that will help destroy-this great country as we know it - from within.

Idea-stop rewarding poor judgement and horribly irresponsible behavior--THIS CHANGE BRINGS NO HOPE-ONLY AN EVER LESS EDUCATED LAZY POPULATION WHO ARE LIKE ETERNAL CHILDREN

MAY GOD BLESS AMERICA

. Yea forget the fact that you have to work to get assistance. All of problems would be solved if people were less lazy. Maybe we should look at wages, and stop focusing on the poor.

That sound like a lot of your feelings. None of it is back up with empirical data. You can't get welfare without working. Unless you have a disability. Focusing on the poor will never fix our problems. Your rant is just rhetorical vitriol.

You better think again. He is right with Obama (anti-gun and coal)and has said in interview he won't even be actively campaigning again. He's been offered a job by Obama more than likely so you need to rethink that. Jay and Joe already sold us out on the AWB, Jay's a co-sponsor of Feinstein's bill so you don't even need to guess how will vote. You guys need to rethink Manchin seriously, check it out if you don't believe but they BOTH sold WV out entirely.

I'm not "getting over" anything you cretin. We have more coal than we do oil in the U.S., hundreds of years, the tech is there for clean coal plants already in place. So you support all these families here losing their financial independence/jobs and also the right to defend themselves? To just "get over it" and suckle at King Obama's teet while he bankrupts and ruins the country? WE can tell who you voted for You're a complete moron and don't deserve to call yourself an American, let alone a West Virginian. It's cowardly "progressives" like you who need to move to North Korea then re-evaluate the tripe you just let drool out of your mouth.

But "West Virginia has more problems than just a ‘war on coal,'" he said. "It's about the physical properties of the coal that's left. The reserves are being depleted, and anybody that's spent any time looking at coal properties and reserves cannot tell you otherwise with a straight face."

Remaining southern West Virginia coal beds are thin, he said, meaning more rock has to be mined to get the coal — decreasing productivity and increasing cost.

More beds are split, with partings, he said, also decreasing productivity and increasing cost. Reserves are in relatively small, scattered blocks, in rugged terrain where it's difficult to achieve the efficiencies of a single mining complex where everything feeds into the same preparation plant.

"There's a lot of inherent, basically physical, attributes of the coal reserves that remain in southern West Virginia that cause these problems," Staggs said after speaking at a Platts coal conference.

Steam coal, used to produce electricity, also has been affected by competition from recently and persistently cheap natural gas, he said — but he doesn't believe higher natural gas prices and a return of the market for steam coal will help the coal industry in this part of the country.

"Southern West Virginia simply has its own set of problems having to do with the nature of its coal deposits," he said. "All these other things are just layered on top of that."

Stagg decried the use of "war on coal" rhetoric for political gain.

"What bothers me, in West Virginia, is this jumping on the bandwagon that ‘We will help stop the war on coal,' which gives the population the false impression that if we could just change the administration or rein in the EPA, we could bring our industry back," he said.

"It'll never come back like it was," he said. "And people don't make good decisions if they think it will — whether it's politicians, or legislators, or business people, or the average man or woman on the street. If I'm a coal miner in Boone County, I might think I'm going to ride this out — take my savings, hunker down like I've done before, like my daddy did before, until it comes back. That's not a good decision."

It's not about Democrats or Republicans, Obama or not Obama, he said.

"There are things that are. This is the way it is."
