The cat did not get foreclosed on, or "lose it's home due to," nor is it a direct victim. Likewise, what's this? "Prince Chunk skyrocketed to feline fame after being found last August wandering around the south Jersey town of Voorhees after his owner lost her home to foreclosure."
No mention in the story of the fact that the owner THREW the cat on the street. It's not the "economy's" fault. I worked as a Veterinary Technician for many, many years, and I can tell you people look for any excuse to euthanase or dump their pets.
That should be the focus of this story. It's not okay to blame someone else and dump your cat on the streets, or your dog, or your child. Kibble isn't that expensive, and you can take a cat to a shelter or give it to a friend or do any number of options -- or, yes, euthanise the cat.
It's really an outrage that this woman gets a pass. From dumping pets to dealing drugs to stealing, people are blaming "the economy." Maybe if people took more responsibility for their own actions, we wouldn't be in this mess.
