as i returned home for the evening w/my 3kids, i found a CYS caseworkers business card in my door. On the back was hand written "please call me!". Even though it was after hours I still called and left a message w/my cell # and plan on calling back 1st thing in the a.m.

I can only assume that a man I had broken up with a month ago(who has been VERY ugly and dirty because I broke up) is trying to seek some revenge because I have blocked him from communicating w/me from every way you could imagine JUST short of attaining a PFA(which is my next step if he attempts to contact me again!). He has made phone calls to my family making up stories about me and even threatened to contact my ex-husband w/some "new" stories that he said he "just might think of".

Obviously, he has contacted CYS. I have been searching all over the internet to find some guidelines in black and white that I can look over and understand my rights, etc. I DO have a sister that works for CYF in Allegheny county after an internship at CYS here in Wash. She said that she would think that when he made the call he made drug allegations(which is what he tried to tell my family). The only meds I take are what is prescribed and they are taken AS prescribed. I would be more than willing to be drug tested by urine and/or blood! no biggie.

I'm just worried about how the whole process works. If she just showed up unannounced today and left a card... should I expect the same tomorrow? If I get to speak w/her when I call in the morn, will she set up a time to come over? In a situation like this, how likely is it that they will pull my kids(ages 6 & 9yr twins)out of class to interview them? My kids would be devestated to have a big deal made at school. I know they'd be afraid. Especially since one of my 9yr olds is being bullied as it is!

Another concern is that my ex-husb and I are not on good terms. Will CYS contact him?
Sorry to be so long-winded...I'm just in the dark and have no idea what to expect or even anywhere to read what procedures even are here!!

Any info would be appreciated and hopefully ease my mind!

If you have nothing to hide contact the caseworker and see what they want. Don't lie to them. Ask them why they are contacting you? Make sure that your family is aware that they are contacting you. If you did nothing wrong, you should have no problems.

Here's a few words of advice for you. First you should get a PFA against your exboyfriend if he has assaulted you in the past and is still stalking you with verbal threats. Then if you have never used illegal drugs you have nothing to worry about. If CYS wants you to do a pee test and you are sure it will come out negative, go for it. Then make sure your home is comfortably clean and you have enough food in the house for the kids. I just hope he has not accused you of Child Abuse. Because then your situation becomes worse. But if your kids dont have any visible marks and when CYS interviews them without you present, they dont say they have been abused, then you have nothing to worry about. Many people have been victimised by their ex's with false reports to the CYS hotline. However if there is no evidence of drugs (Make sure you let the Caseworker know you take prescription drugs) and there is no evidence of child abuse on your three kids. You have nothing to worry about. But go get that PFA against him to stop the harassment. Good luck kiddo.

CYS is useless, I see all these things from parents but I'm taking care of my neices and nephew and the dad of the girls has mental and drug issues but he is still allowed to see them when he wants what day he wants and I have to agree to it. The 3 yr old has been acting out trying to hurt her brother and sister but that is not brought up in court. The mother hasn't by her own actions hasn't seen the kids in 14 mths. the 3yr old doesn't know who she in and neither does the 14mth old, but now she wants visits so she gets visits. This has been going on for 21/2 yrs and I have actually been taking care of the children their whole lives. Does any one care? NO! Maybe if you were on the other end you'd see that they only protect the parents rights and not the childrens. The girls can come back with marker and stickers all over their bodies and this is supervised? What supervision? I'm told they can't stop him from doing it. Why? Then it is not brought up in court. I want to adopt the children and CYS and Kids Voice seem to be working for the parents. Kids Voice who know the girls don't know their mother want to give her move visits and longer hours even though she didn't care enough to see them for over a yr and was out of state for fun the day of the hearing. Where are the children's rights? They have none and neither do the family members who are taking care of these children.

I would like to know exactly how some of you think that PA CYS and the courts do not fail the children? My step-daughter, at 4 yrs old began acting out. Her father and I began her in counseling to find the heart of the matter. Her mother, who has shared custody, did not want any part of it. She saw nothing wrong with her child. I guess it would be hard to do that when she sleeps till noon. We both work while she survives on child support, welfare, and any man she can hop a free ride from. After months of counseling our counselor quit saying the child would not speak to her. I did not give up and contacted another counselor. Before I walked out of the door for that appointment, my stepdaughter told me how the 13 year old son of her mother's then boyfriend was doing sexual acts with her. Giving descriptions that NO child has knowledge of. This little piece of scum was full out raping her for months..every 48 hours when she returned to her mom's for shared custody. I contacted CYS and we went into an emergency court hearing the next day. We were denied emergency custody because the mediator said she doesn't agree with taking a child away from her mother. Apparently sexual abuse she does approve of. We went into another emergency hearing days later and were told that this mediator could not overturn the order of the first. They can't even get their rules right. CYS determined that the mother did nothing wrong, even though the house was a pigsty, she ignored her child when she tried to tell her what the boy was doing, and she chose to stay living in that home. Now here we are almost a year later and I'm fighting the DA to charge this boy with something. The state police say it was rape, but the DA says he doesn't want to go to trial and lose and he's not sure of the story because she won't really speak to him. I tried to convince him to let her speak to a female DA considering a male raped her, she speaks very openly with a female counselor and investigator. I got told by the DA's office that they would arrange for her to speak to a female. Well that has been months ago and no call yet. And of course they won't return my calls or emails anymore. Now we did nothing wrong, yet cannot get this child out of a bad situation. She did nothing wrong and is forced to live with an unfit and uncaring parent. Her mother does nothing but complain about the lack of charges yet has never made one phone call. My husband and I have been footing all the lawyers bills and doing all the legwork. Where is CYS and the court system that is supposed to protect innocent children and parents who take care of their children? As a retired corrections officer I know that the state spends more time defending criminals on appeals then innocent children. Congratulations Pennsylvania on a job well done. Do they really need to question why we have over 42,000 state prison inmates alone? They protect the guilty and screw the innocent. I guess they better save a bed for this little rapist because he will need it when he hits 18 since they refuse to help him and change his ways now. He just keeps walking the streets and grins whenever he see's my stepdaugher. He knows what he did and what he got away with. The biggest shame is that we did not request to even have this kid put in jail, but rather to get him professional treatment for his actions. That's more than what his own parents did.

Cathy,
This would be the Lycoming Country Assistant District Attorney. Fortunately and by coincidence, the day after I wrote this, on Friday evening, we received a phone call from the State Police that the female ADA we requested to interview my stepdaughter has reviewed the evidence and wants this boy prosecuted. She feels she has enough evidence to prosecute without even putting my stepdaughter on the stand. Funny how two different ADA's in the same office can have a completely different opinion about the same thing. My opinion is that she must be a mother too. I'm so happy that I still don't think it has really set in yet. I don't think it will till I actually see this boy in custody and finally getting the help he deserves. I just wish his own parents would have tried to get it for him. It's a complete shame that my stepdaughter is the victim and yet I'm fighting for her attacker to get help and not his own parents.
