Is National Special Education Week A Hoax?

I brought this over from another forum. It seems both the Department of Education and the White House won't respond to a simple question.

National Special Education Week
"People need to understand that children
with special needs don't have an illness, so there is no cure &
it's not contagious. They only want what we all want, to be
accepted. Copy this and leave it on your Facebook status or your blog for at least an hour.
It's Special Education week, and this is in honor of all the
...kids ...who need a little extra help & understanding!!"

I know the above statement sounds like somebody is really concerned about special needs persons, but it is a complete hoax.

A family member had the statement on their facebook page and requested we all do the same. The Family member received the request from someone else, who received it from someone else and so on and so on and so on. It has been passed all over the internet via http://publicrecordsdetectivesjournal.co.cc/

The pro-Obama people don't care what gets ignored. And the anti-Obama people won't care unless fox news tells them they should care. Even if the people here did care, all anyone here would do is post useless comments. No one here would actually write letters or send emails.
If it is a scam, its ripe for the please send money now, phony charity crowd.

I also kept seeing this posted on fb about every 2 or 3 months & kept wondering how it could be Special Education Week so often. I assume this is either outdated from a week that possibly is Special Education Week or is entirely a hoax. I work with individuals with intellectual disabilities & have never heard of Special Education Week.

Ok I stumbled across this blog because like you I have seen the many post on facebook containing this message... so I did a google search to find out when special education week actually it... There are many different sites with different dates as well as sites that state there is no such thing as special education week...

My question lies in the fact of the matter... Does it really matter if there is a special education week? Is it so wrong for you friends and/or family members to bring awareness to a very important matter that is close to my heart? Maybe we should reword the said statement so it reads...

"People need to understand that children with special needs don't have an illness, so there is no cure & it's not contagious. They only want what we all want, to be
accepted. Copy this and leave it on your Facebook status or your blog for at least an hour. In honor of all the ...kids ...who need a little extra help & understanding!!"...

Would that be so difficult? As a mother of a toddler with Down Syndrome and an advocate for his education and life, I plan to get to the bottom of this... And if there truly is no special education week, I will make it my personal goal to rally my friends and family together and have one created...

In honor of all the ...kids ...who need a little extra help & understanding!!"...

Hilarious coming from the MAD magazine guy.

And you clearly know absolutely nothing about leftists. We care as much as you do--difference is, we care about people other than ourselves.

Exactly. Lefties care so much about other people that we make every life decision for them.

This is the same mentality that brought trophies to losers, and everyone makes the team. Do NOT misunderstand my words or think for me. I understand and approve a 'reminder' that there are some people who require a higher level of attention and need. But by NOT having a number of cut players or losing teams, the lesson of defeat, the lesson of hard work to overcome, and the lesson of perseverance will be lost. These lessons, as well as others, teach us how life can be tough, and how we can achieve success through hard work and not giving up. We don't give World Series and Super Bowl losers a ring. We also don't reward the losing Presidential candidate. It is an important life lesson to learn that we don't always get what we want, and it is definitely not handed to us because we are "special" needs. We are ALL special, and we ALL have needs.
