If I was a police officer and saw a car full of kids driving, I would try to pull them over, and if they continued I would have no choice but to chase them. As far was whether the child was thrown from the vehicle or hit by a car, I dont know. This is still really sad. My prayers go out to the family of the deceased child.

Your right the kids ARE wrong but this comments made by the family stating that the police should not of chased the kids, well sorry the police are they to protect the citizens from these types of kids, heck if they didn't do their job you would complain. How about blaming yourself for not doing more, I find it hard ot believe that this was the first time the good kid was involved in illegal activity. All three of them were up to no good and if their lack of respect for the law puts them in a stolen car well you live by the sword and you die by the sword. My child at that age isn't even allowed in a car and she knows better to try and do it without me knowing. Maybe the parents should not of allowed him to go back to his old neighborhood, its not like he was really playing at the rec center. While I'm very sorry for the families loss I find it sick that they want to blame the police.

A case of kids doing what they want to do and no parental control!

Kids raising kids!

The pic of that kid making gestures tells it all!

The real issue here is poor parenting. No parents are perfect but at least have a philosophy is place to help your kids grow, teach them right and wrong so they can become quality members of the society. That likely was not the case but at least they can locate some blame: the kids are doing it for fun, cops shouldn't be chasing them and not enough constructive activities to keep them busy.
KIDS DON'T HAVE A CHANCE UNLESS THEIR PARENTS DO THEIR JOB.

maybe the billboards at the city limits instead of reading "washington, DC The Nations Capital" should read--"IF YOUR CAR GETS STOLED JUST WAVE GOODBYE TO IT AS THE THIEVES DRIVE IT AWAY"

The father indicates the "little" boy was turning his life around. He's 14 years old. He should not haveto turn his life around. He should have already been on the track for a good life. Did the parents not do anything when he was misbehaving. Now I am sure the parents & family are going to blame the cops for chasing the "little boy". Looks like mom & dad had no idea who their child was. So sad, maybe they were not meant to have kids,(as they have 5). I show no sympathy for the family or friends of this kid. Look at his picture they have posted of him "throwing up gangster signs". Your child is 14 be a parent show him right from wrong. But now it's too late for the parents!

"The parents say they tried to warn their sons about the dangers of stolen cars, but they also believe teenagers do not have enough constructive activities to keep them busy."

It is the parents' job to find constructive activities for the kids. My parents called it housework, church activities, homework, girl scouts, etc. I am tired of parents pointing fingers at police, society, everyone except for themselves and their kids.

"The mother of five dropped the phone and began the search for her son"

Wait he's 14 and you did not know where he was at 9 p.m. at night already? WTF? People please stop rasing criminals. Don't have a child just so you can collect a check.

My condolences to the family. I think what is going on is that DC parents of black children do not want to believe that these streets are trouble. The DC parents in their 30s and over that I know always talk about the stuff they did "back in the day", but this is a new day and you have to really regulate your kids' activities. I know it's hard and people say "you can't watch them all the time" and all that, but almost everyday a kid dies on DC's streets. If your kid spends most to all of his/her time hanging out on the streets of DC, they are going to end up in jail or dead. Please wake up parents so these tragedies can stop. I'm tired of our black kids dying. I try to talk to the kids, but too many are so disrespectful nowadays it's discouraging.

Its the schools, its the courts, its the neighborhood, its the police's fault again by a landslide. Please, raise your children, if they live on the streets , they will die there. Step up and get involved instead of having your "own life". You stopped that when you had them...

I am so tired of hearing when something like this happens that it is the fault of the government for not having enough constructive activities for the "hoodrats". If the parents want to blame someone for this, tell them to look in the mirror. They flat out FAILED as parents to keep an eye on their child and he paid the price. I thought that was a real nice photo of him flashing a gang sign.

Sorry for this mothers loss. Parents need to find constructive activities for their children to keep them from round the way. The police were stupid for chasing the boys.
