I recently visited the lovely town of Warwick, only to be scammed by the owners of a small shopping center and a tow truck company. My family and I went out for dinner at a wonderful local pub called Halligans. My brother-in-law and I parked our cars in a small shopping center that was shut down for the night. When we finished our meal we discovered that our cars had been towed away. We were told by the towing company that we had to pay almost $200.00 to get our cars back. The tow truck driver admitted to us that there was a kickback scheme, where the tow truck company would pay the shopping center owners, who are apparently not from the Warwick area, a kickback for each car that was towed from their property. It is hard to believe that a town which relies on tourism would allow such a scheme.

You shouldn't have parked in that parking lot. It clearly says no parking and there are video cameras everywhere, where the owners watch and have everyone who parks there towed away.

I've heard others complain about the same thing. I no longer shop at those stores. That's the only way locals can retaliate. Even if it is posted not to park there it's not the "character" of our town to intentionally scam people.

As a business owner, myself, I can understand why some store owners don't want bar patrons parking in their parking lots. To have to clean up used condoms & wrappers, beer bottles, and puke the next morning is disgusting.
