I'm stuck. I'm lost. I'm confused. I need help understanding that there really is such a thing as afterlife.. How do we know that heaven actually exists and that when we die that we go there if we've been saved? How do we know that when you die that it isn't like your asleep without dreaming? Just a big black hole and you can't see/hear anything? I'm trying to find myself in this big ole world and I don't want any smart remarks please. My heart is torn. I am terrified of death due to the fact of everything unknown. If you have any advice please please help me find my way.

I think everyone at some time questions this. I know I have. I'm not an expert on this, but things have happened in my life that leaves me with a strong belief that their is a God & Heaven that does exist. My suggestion for you is to pray about it and talk to a minister. Surround yourself with believers & feel the love in their hearts. I truly hope you don't get any trash posts, but you probably will because the devil is at work everywhere. Look for answers somewhere besides on Topix. Praying for you.

Goodness gracious. I believe in God and certainly I am a Christian. But it is NO wonder that people turn away from witnesses when they cannot even form a sentence or spell the easiest of words. It leaves a person with the impression of ignorance as to the facts.

Whatever I believe you are a Christian if you say you are. A christian is Christ like and He would never make fun of the way a person spells or writes a sentence. It seems like maybe you have some pride in your heart that makes you think you are better than others. How do you know a child or an older person, that is not use to computers wrote that. Even if it isn't, at least they made JESUS important by making it in large letters. That shows me they love Him. I would listen to that person anyday before I would you if they told me about Christ. Heaven will be full of people that love Him and no one will be picking on others. YOU SOUND LIKE A BULLY. Do you go to church? If you do you should ask them to pray for you, I know I will.

God does not exist.

All that time you spent in church was a waste.

Keep praying that you're right.

Weird how we haven't proved ANY religion to be the truth to this day....but we got to have "faith" .. right?

Lol. Got your feelings on your sleeve do you? You think Christ didn't give instructions to people to be clear and concise? But thank you for your prayers. I'm absolutely certain they will benefit me.

What is heaven? Its the kingdom of god. Jesus says to "Find the Kingdom of God within." While I'm an atheist I still enjoy the teachings of Jesus and find this line particularly good. I think it means with in us is the potential to find heaven in our lives. We find it in strange little places during good times with out friends, or a pretty sunset, or even eating your favorite foods.

No one really knows what happens to 'the soul (or consciousness as I prefer)' when we die. But I can tell you what happens to you body, it is reconstituted by the earth for other purposes. You die and your body decays, this decay may in many years provide the nutrients needed to grow an apple tree. The fruit of that tree may some day be eaten by a child. Your 'soul' is the product of the interaction of molecules in your body (Brain chemistry and what not). Those same molecules will provide life through food for that child and you will in some sense be reborn. I think that is eternal life.

Nor are you the beginning of that cycle that began after the big bang and perhaps even before. All those tiny atoms that make you where once stars. Then after countless eons they became arranged in such a way to be edible to your mother in the form of the plants and animals she ate which her body used to make you.

Don't be afraid of death. It happens to all of us. With out death there wouldn't be life. They are intertwined in ways that are so complex we can't understand. Just live your life the best way you can.

Hello my fellow atheist. Can you kind of drop the 'angry atheist' thing? Time spent in church even for an atheist is not wasted if that person enjoys going. Perhaps they like the community, maybe the religious art, maybe they are a down on there luck homeless type just trying to get out of the rain.

Leave these peoples religious views alone. If you want them to respect yours you have to respect theirs. Further more your attitude hurts peoples opinion of us. They just have a different belief system then you and there's absolutely nothing wrong with being different. I'm sure the anger that you have comes from people who knocked your atheism because it was different then what they believe just like you are doing now. You are continuing the cycle. Stop it.

PS: Dear Religious people, not all atheists are like this guy. Sorry about him.

If i am wrong i still haved lived a good life an its over.IF YOU ARE WRONG YOU WILL HAVE TO SPEND ETERNITY IN A LAKE OF FIRE.Think about it. If you believe in evolution is it not funny that through millions of years we came from apes to our human forms an evolution stops. We stay in our human form. THINK ABOUT IT

Humans are more closely related to modern apes than to monkeys, but we didn't evolve from apes, either. Humans share a common ancestor with modern African apes, like gorillas and chimpanzees. Scientists believe this common ancestor existed 5 to 8 million years ago. Shortly thereafter, the species diverged into two separate lineages. One of these lineages ultimately evolved into gorillas and chimps, and the other evolved into early human ancestors called hominids.

That argument is just ridiculous. What if your wrong and your not sacrificing enough lambs to Zeus and you end up going to Hades? Or you don't pray to Shiva enough? Also your entire view point is based on fear. Don't be so afraid.

Onto the second point you are absolutely wrong about evolution. It doesn't happen in five seconds. We are not pokemon. You don't suddenly have an animal give birth to a brand new species. It works like this; Through tens of thousands of years the creature with the best genetic traits for its environment survives, while the one with genes that aren't dies. Since one lives it breeds passing on those useful genes. Over hundreds of thousands of generations the result ends up being some thing almost indistinguishable from what you started out with. That is called the slow push or genetic gradualism. That's one way evolution happens. Another way is through mutations. Most of the time genetic mutations end up hurting or killing the creature in question, take down syndrome for example that's a bad mutation. But some times you get a good mutation, say people who are double jointed, they end up being more likely to pass that mutation down to there kids which results in them being more flexible which may some day save there life (say being able to wiggle out of a burning car crash) so they can breed and pass those genes down to there kids. That is evolution happening.

If you want some reading materials about it let me know and I'll help you find them.

It's really best to no argue with those people, it does no good. They made an entire museum to reinforce the whole twisted idea of creationism.

All you're going to do is piss them off and make them get loud and angry.......kind of like a bunch of pissed off chimpanzees.

The following post was deleted for some reason, so I'm reposting it. If it is factually inaccurate, then show where it is wrong. If it is not wrong, not factually inaccurate, but you find yourself offended, then maybe the problem is not with the post but elsewhere.

I am reminded that in the time of the end people will not be able to abide the truth. Maybe this proves the Bible right, eh?

If you're stuck, lost, and confused you may not find what I have to say very helpful, but then again you might. If you're Christian, did you decide to follow Jesus because you wanted to live life the way He says we should, or did you make that decision so you could escape from eternal punishment? Do you follow Him so you can go to Heaven? If there is no "Heaven" would you follow Him still? How many verses in the Bible promise "Heaven" to those who do not die for their faith? I can't seem to let that question hang, though I probably should. "Heaven" is not promised to anyone by any verse in the Bible. Jesus says to the thief on the cross that he'll be in paradise that day with Him because he gave witness of Jesus as a righteous man while he was being killed. Study the 5th seal in Revelation for the answer to this one. I'm sure many will want to argue with me, but truth will out. If you follow Jesus for fire insurance, you're cooked. If He is your Lord, you're living your life according to His teachings, and you trust Him, what are you worried about? There is your real decision, and the real decision for all who say they follow Jesus. Beware those who follow the religion and still expect salvation for they shall have nothing in the Kingdom of the Heavens.
