Property taxes going up, up, up

[Anti-tax increase]

Our wonderful commissioners are spending our money like it grows on trees. Due to their heavy spending and no cuts property taxes are going to increase 20 to 30 cents per hundred. If you are ok with it, sit back & say nothing. If you want to let them know you are against it, now is the time to shout it out at them.

Several offices, Session judge, and his courtroom need to be put on the back burner. Back off on the sheriffs request and cut some there. After the funeral home was purchased, Judge Davis was real quick on getting his courtroom in there. Put him back on the third floor. We have been told that the State and Federal people want some changes in our county courtroom. Well untill they stop us get Davis back in the courthouse, and quit wasting money we don't have.

Wonder why when gas or food or clothing go up in price everybody just goes with the flow. But when the cost of running this county and all the departments involved some smart ass gets on here and starts crying about raises the taxes. This is the times that we live in, the cost of living goes up so everything else must follow suit. It's embarrassing the way the different departments in this fine county have to try and run on such amounts of money. Our law enforcement officers and correction officers make less than almost ANY other county in Tennessee. Would you put your life on the line or work with offenders with diseases and no morals for what they make in this county? NO NO

the heading says it all UP, UP, UP and away we hope YOU go. a little tax increase want hurt a thing to help our county continue to grow and improve its services !!!!

This statement is a fallacy considering that higher taxes doesn't mean growth, nor does it mean that services are improving.

We do complain about the prices of food, clothing, gas going up. Those are necessities. The big courtroom is not. They can make do with what they have until we can afford to improve it. Besides, the only ones benefiting are the criminals & the judge. Most of us will never go inside the building. Don't we spend enough on the inmates as it is???? Free medical, dental, meals...more than we citizens get. All we get is footing the bill for these spend crazy commissioners. They could care less about the burden they put on the citizens. Do away with the new courtroom & give the law enforcement a raise. In case you're unaware we are way overspending what we have. Some commissioners (Kay) just wants to make a name for herself. I can say she has done that, but not the name she seeks. Do you even pay property taxes or do you pay so little it doesn't raise yours more than a few dollars?

Yes, I pay taxes too and have since I was about 19yrs old. Maybe you should run for County Commissioner since you seen to have all the answers. You probably own several acres the reason you're gripping. Get over it, you're no better than the rest of us to pay higher taxes or higher gas prices or higher food prices.

Maybe I will...I could sure do a much better job than the ones we have. So, you must not have to pay high taxes since you think people with acreage should. The ones that do pay high taxes don't get any more for it than the ones that don't. Grow up & get in the real world. I for one am tired of them wasting my money. As desperate as Scott County is with an unemployment of nearly 20%, loosing the hospital etc. The COUNTY EXECUTIVE figured out how to operate without a tax increase. Quote the COUNTY EXECUTIVE who advises the commission effectively.

Sounds like they work together & actually listen to their exec. Maybe if our commissioners weren't so power hungry, they would let our exec try to fix our problems. We don't get businesses because our commissioners have our taxes so high.

I know for sure Tommy Francis voted against tax increase & maybe Terri Ryon & one other…not sure.
I know for sure Randy Roberts, Terry Jackson, Kay Johnson, Lucy Freytag, Susie Kries, Allen Brown, Carla LaRue, Sue Duncan voted for it.
Mickey Tucker said he voted against it, but 5 minutes later voted to approve the budget which increased the taxes…..so he voted for it. That was double talk to try to ride the fence.

Yes, that’s true, but they could have voted against the budget. If enough had voted against the budget, they would have had to make enough cuts so they didn’t have to raise taxes. This is the same politics Washington plays. They know it’s going to get enough votes without theirs so they can vote against it & make their constituents think they tried. Usually the ones skeptical of being re-elected.

Hey everyone needs to read the paper. The budget committee has a budget that has no tax increase. Now what do you think about that. Don has miss informed you. Of course he would not have known what they were doing because he never goes to the meetings like he is paid to do. No he spends his time writing letters (not grants) to the editor that make no sense either. Is that what you elected him to do and really pay him the big bucks. The truth will always show itself. Now if he would get busy doing something productive for this county instead of whinning about everything. All he is doing is putting up a smoke screen because he don't know how to run a county.
