I didn't see this but was in the Carryout this morning and it was being discussed. Surely this will not be tolerated ? I think its disgraceful for the community ! What about the gas used? Who picks up that tab...Gallatin County tax payers, the Judge? The City?

what other team was it

The opposing team was the Walton Verona Bearcats, Barry Alexander's grandson plays for them. He gladly volunteered the use of our emergency equipment to escort them from their feed in Walton to Warsaw. Some of the home players were caught behind the mess and were completely discouraged and didn't understand why our community did this. It wasn't a great way for them to start their Super Bowl game.
Walton did ask their fire district to conduct the escort, but they declined because they felt it was too disrespectful. So, leave it to Mr. Alexander! I also feel that Waton better be picking up the tab for this.

My guess is that no one in Gallatin County will anything to the Alexanders. They are golden!

My understanding is that the judges office, news paper and fire dept. have been flooded with outrageous calls today and letters have been pouring in. This isn't the first, second or even third time Mr. Alexander has abused his power. The county is supposed to be calling a meeting regarding this, stating this was what finally broke that camels back. I mean God forbid, but what if a call had gone out during this? He was using 2 fire trucks and a squad for this. You know this isn't going to be cheap on the community! It either needs to come out of Mr. Alexander's pocket or Walton's.

We will see. I know he has always been able to slide out of anything. His nickname uptown is the teflon chief! Nothing ever sticks to him.

This is truly embarrassing for our community. What a misuse of power and extremely poor judgment on behalf of Mr. Alexander. I would love to see him doing some sort of community service to earn the money back for the resources used for this Walton-Verona Celebration. Maybe he can give some of the money to the Boosters for new helmets that are much needed. These boys, their parents, and our community sacrifice a lot so that these boys can play. We have a proud bunch of players and parents who are very disappointed in someone who should be one of our communities “Leaders”.

As a resident of Gallatin County and an avid supporter of Gallatin County Youth Football, I was outraged to see our Gallatin County Fire Department escorting the Walton-Verona Football team to our home field on Sunday, November 4th.
While running some errands before the game, I was confused to see a Gallatin County Fire Truck parked at the bottom of 127. As I headed up the hill I saw another truc
k, lights flashing with 30+ Walton-Verona Bearcat fans in toe. I was later informed that our Gallatin County Fire Chief, Barry Alexander, has grandchildren that play for Walton-Verona and he gladly offered them an escort to our home field in style.
Is this not a waste of our tax dollars and valuable resources? Where is our sense of community? Where is the support for our boys and our county? I am very disappointed by the actions of an individual that is seen as one of our county’s “leaders”. This is a man that we should be looking on to set an example for our county’s youth.
This was, in my opinion, a selfish act made by a man who is taking advantage of his position and our resources. I understand his supporting his grandchildren, 100%. What I do not understand is his decision to use our Gallatin County Fire Trucks to do it.
Sincerely Disgusted.

My understanding is Barry Alexander Sr. had nothing to do with this.. It was Barry Jr. or "Little Barry" that did this.

there should be consequences for this disrespectful act. I am appaled by this. How do you think our hometown boys and parents felt when they seen this? It was a very emotional game anyway. There is no excuse for this.....where is our hometown support for these young boys who played so hard all season? They do not deserve this. The county should be ashamed, there should be a fromal apology from our leaders. You are suppost to be teaching these kids respect, as leaders you supposly are. This is not the way to do it. If he or anyone of these leaders thinks this was ok, we clearly need new leaders in this community. I am blown away by this act. By all means support your grandsons, wear a walton shirt, but DO NOT disrespect our boys and parents and our community and use our tax dollars and trucks and bring in the rival team in escort with our whole community watching. There is no excuse for this!

Well thats funny when Big Barry was there at the game and he is the chief that has to approve for this to happen. Also I heard his employees talking saying that they didn't want to do it but basically Mr. Alexander did not give them a choice if they wanted their job!!

I too am shocked by this, How can anyone be allowed to just take two trucks out of county to escort a rival team into the county. WE the people of GALLATIN CO pay taxes that pay for those trucks, the gas and upkeep on them and they just use them as they see fit? Someone owes those Gallatin Co Wildcats a very big apology and the taxpayers need an answer as to why and how this happened. Is this the way that the judges office is going to allow things to go? Shame on him for not knowing what is going on in his own county.

Yes, we saw it firsthand. We were headed toward town to drop supplies of at the football field and noticed the fire truck with the big WEBN sticker sitting at the 127 & 42 overlook. It was somewhere around noon. On our way back, about 15 minutes later, the truck was still in the same spot but this time with the lights on. We proceeded cautiously past the truck as we turned onto 127. About a mile or so down 127, we saw another emergency vehicle (ambulance) approaching with its lights on. We moved to the right shoulder and stopped. The ambulance passed and so did a long line, maybe 30-40 vehicles, with their flashers on and unmistakeable paint in support of the Walton Verona football Bearcats. Some honked as we sat still until they passed. An appalling misappropriation of my taxes and a swift kick in the groin to my 9 year old Gallatin County football player as he watched the convoy pass.

Like I said earlier, nothing will be done to Sr. or Jr., Barry Jr. gladly accepts a paycheck from Gallatin County, used and abused the gas cards from Gallatin County, but sends his kids to Walton Verona to school. Maybe he should get his weekly pay check from there. I am not sure what all he does for the County, but I am certain that he gets paid. I never see him working, just driving around with all of his flashy lights.

Please share this topic on your Facebook page, Twitter and other social media outlets! The more attention we can bring to this the better. I would like to see Mr. Alexander have to answer for his actions.

Answer what? He is untouchable, nothing will ever be done to this guy. Go back in history and check his record, if I would have done half what he has done, I would be under the jail!
