You guys are going overboard. Consider that the truth is likely in the middle. Art Van does try to make money on low value, high-profit protection plans. Customers are often unreasonable in any retail environment because they are emotional about their money. Both sides are in the wrong in most cases.

Art Van is a joke: I purchased my new table 3/3/2010, I noticed a few chips and a scratch on the table, I called several times and was placed on hold. My mother at 52 suddenly passed away and my Grandmother a couple of weeks later, so needless to say things were crazy around my house for several weeks. I called today to complain about the table and was told I only had a seven day window on which to report the scratches. They told me today that I would have to pay. Invoice Number is 440985220.

The one important thing u might be interested in at Art Van, the funiture u get might not be new as advertised. Even exchange/ 30 day satisfaction guarantee, policies of the company, where does the furniture go? Possibly to your home, when they take back that furniture, if they can fix it, or clean it, or they think it looks good enough to fool u, they put it back in to stock. The problem is, if you had seen some of the homes it came from, or some of the things cleaned out of this furniture, or found within upon return,(used condoms, food crumbs, etc.). Floor Samples, as they call them, are frequently the returned product that they couldn't be sent out for new. And yes this includes bedding. Think about that the next time u shop there, if u don't believe me ask your delivery guy, he'll either say he don't know what they do with the returned furniture, or he'll be honest and will comfirm this. BUYER BE WARE, ESPECIALLY HERE.

We have a two year old leather couch set made by Milano for Art Van. The dye has worn off the seats and even with the leather protection Art Van says that will not cover this. This set was not the cheap one and was sold as their high-end line. The dye is coming off because it did not absorb into the leather and merely is like paint on the surface. Still arguing and will post an update.
I would like to update my problem. Art Van replaced the seat cushions and re-died are love seat. It lasted about six months and the dye has warn off. We had called the service center numerous times and they said they would call us back. Well they never called us back. After 6 months we finally had a service person come out and they told us we had waited to long to have them come out....unbelievable! So we asked if they would redye the love seat and chair since they had dyed them previously....their answer NO! Said it was are fault....

As an employee in the main warehouse that ships all dleiveries in metro Detroit I see all furniture that you all receive. The furniture is looked over by 3 different people at least before it even leaves the warehouse. If it is not up to perfect quality it is pulled new. We are the only company able to do that in michigan. Other companies would have u wait till they have a replacement available. And as for Art Van making too much money, cry me a river. He's the owner of a company that keeps MILLIONS of dollars worth of furniture ready and available to you at a moments notice! And if you don't like it go to a different store... Oh wait, they're more expensive? Hmmm weird... I wonder how much their owner makes... You won't find better quality anywehere else. There are some problems but you will only find more elsewhere.

Leather furniture is not for everyone. It does require more care than fabric. You can't have kids jumping on it like it's a trampoline. You have to be careful to avoid soil and stains. Don't buy it unless you are truely prepared to take care of it. Don't put it in a room where direct sunlight will hit it. This will cause it to fade. I have been in the leather business since 1969, so I do have experience in this area.

i agree with this guy's post. They ripped me off too and bullied me around in court afterward only because they knew that eventually i couldn't keep paying for legal expenses.
WATCH out for their lawyer who handles their legal work.
He is a miserable, grumpy old man (atleast in his 80's) and he has a chip on his shoulder and is mad at the world. He gripes about working for Art Van also. you would think a company like Art Van would try to work out a matter instead of ripping the little guy off. And believe me when i say this----- Art van Elslander (big jerk) and his lawyer/buddy, Fred Keywell (another big jerk), they dont even care about you and the work you did, nor the money they havent paid you. They just dont care and drag the matter out in court forever til you run out of money.

I am looking to buy a leather living room set. Art Van has one that I am interested in. It's a Broyhill/Caine collection. The sofa reads "100% Top Grain pull-up leather. The pull up effect and patina is created by aniline dyes and special oils that permeate the hide to create the markings and shadings. Finish Affinity (3) Cushions 1.8 Density high resilency polyurethane foam wrapped in multiple layers of polyester fiber Construction Hardwoods and 3/4 plywood Spring Construction Sinuous wire" The sofa and live seat are about $1500 each. I want to buy the very best and I want it to last for years to come. Does this sound like a quality set? I like Art Van because they sometimes give you 2 years to pay without interest. Would snyone please tell me WHERE I can find top of the line leather and what I should look for? I spoke with anArt Van salesperson, and he naturally told me that the set was of very good quality. But he said that "Milan" funiture would be a step above Boryhill but Milan generally has tradition style and I am looking for contemporary. I don't mine spending a little more for quality. Please help cause I don't have a clue.
Yes, please research Art Van before making any purchase. It may save you a heart ache.

I'm having a very similar problem with the Art Van in Port Huron. We bought leather sectional for around 1400.00, spent 2500.00 in that trip. Now less than 12 months the color is "rubbing off". Yes, we used the protectant and the conditioner and it still did it. Warranty says it won't cover it. So now we are contacting the store manager. 1400.00 and it lasted less than 1 year. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE. Come hell or high water someone's going to fix this or I will take every avenue possible to blast out a negative message about how Art Van does business. I'm talking newpapers, internet, anything possible. To be continued...

Just some friendly advice that I received from an employee that worked for Art Van,and my husband and I tried it and it worked. We had the same issue, but with a mattress. So on a busy Saturday in the middle of one of their promotional days, we went in their and started raising hell and telling people not to buy that certain mattress, etc. and we had the manager's attention in 1.5 seconds. He pulled us away from the area very quickly and tried to quiet us down. We told him the issue we had and the run around we got from the store, he said he would get us a brand new mattress and within a few weeks we got our wish. They sent another service man to reevaluate our mattress and miraculously he agreed that it was defective, when only weeks before it was declared perfectly normal wear and tear. So raise hell on a busy day! Good luck! Hope this helps!
We had service people out 4 times in 8 months before they finally declared our ($1200.00) matress defective, they removed our mattress told us to go to the store to see our replacement, since the model we had was no longer available, The store on Gratiot between 14-15 mile showed us a mattress I wouldn't purchase for my pets,(Big Lots had the exact same mattress for $99.00.) It was a scratchy hideous material which had little fuzz balls like you get on cheap sheets. I laughed in their face & they laughed right back at me. Basically when they found out I wasn't there to purchase a commission item, they scattered like flies & went after other customers, leaving me standing in the asile. I left & went over to 14 Mile between VanDyke & Mound store, explained the situation to the sweetest salesman, he showed me one I could use the credit toward, upgraded by $100.00, said delivery was not included, but he included for me since I'd already paid for the original defective mattress delivery & because of the treatment at the Gratiot store, we had the mattress the next day & are now satisfied. Don't shop at the Gratiot Store, it 3 minutes from my house but I'll never go in there again. I know several people through work 7 my neighborhood that have been treated the same way at the Gratiot store.

Art Van ended up letting us replace the furniture we were having problems with. They picked up the defective furniture and we picked out a new set, like the person above, it was discontinued. I applaud Art Van for taking the necessary steps for customer satisfaction.

Art Van Sucks I will never buy from them again. I was also a victim to there screwing on the leather protection warranty or shall I say make believe warranty. I am proud to say that since my screwing that I have diverted quite a bit of business elsewhere locally in the last 6 years.

It's absolutely true Art Van COMPANY make sure all merchandise is up to par before delivering. The problem is Art Van ignorant and uneducated delivery and porter personal destroy much of the merchandise before or during delivery.

Delivery team remove merchandise out of box before putting on truck to more on the truck however in the process dumb porters damage merchandise and delivery team putt on and take off truck without care.

Finally, Art Van really do offer furniture in everybody price range and he have many different programs to help guests make purchases. Nonetheless, customers always trying to get something for nothing or cheaper than whats reasonable. They come into the store like its some dam swap meet or flea market. Always trying to hustle the best deal. Matter of fact, when Art Van offer 20% off customers stay away like its the pleg. But for some reason they think when we pay taxes its a big deal. STUPID!!! ITS ALL PSYCHOLOGY PEOPLE!

We purchased our second leather couch from Art Van Warren store and within 5months noticed it had 3 area's where the leather had ripped along the seam. It was on the back corner and on one of the pillow arm tops. After Art Van sent out 2 different tech's, they informed us it was not a manufacturer defect it was how we were using the couch. The only thing we do on this couch is sit on it and that is what a couch is supposed to be designed for. It was insulting the way customer service treated us. We know how to sit on our 2 year old leather couch from them as it is in perfect condition, but we don't know how to sit on our brand new couch that cost $1 700. That makes a lot of sense. I was floored on how we were treated. Basically they could care less it you are satisfied and if it is a good product. We even purchased the leather warranty. I would like to warn customers of our experience so you can decide how you would like to spend your hard earned money. The couch is made by Flex Steel.
