Maybe they can fill in all of the farm worker jobs the mexican's have left. Then the farmers won't have to plow the crops under because they are rotting in the fields

Let's see: math first. The article says about 2000 refugees but later says half of an expected 7000 refugees will settle in Michigan. My calculator says that 1/2 of 7000 equals 3500.
Secondly: Journalism courses hammer in the need for answers to the questions who, what, why, where, and when. My question is WHY are 1/2 of these refugees (or 2000)expected to settle in Michigan? Has Big Brother decided we need them because we don't get our fair share of Mexican immigrants? Or did our Gov cut a deal? Is Michigan a popular place because of its balmy weather?
Which federal officials?
These AP pieces should be proof read because as it stands it appears someone is "testing the waters" to see how much opposition there will be to having these refugees in our state.
Perhaps this is why there are other pronouncements in the news that terrorist cells are being formed in the US. How do we know these refugees aren't car bombers?
Since the article says these people will bring advanced degrees that is great. Great Britain had doctors from foreign places who were inept terrorists. Maybe we can get some of them too.

here we go again "they take jobs Americans won't do" what a load of crap!!! sure they start businesses, they get all kinds of tax breaks! And I am not convinced they will not be sympathetic to radical Islam, what a great way for terror cells to get whole groups into the country, just pretend to be a refugee, WE DON'T WANT THEM!! there has to be another country that would want these business minded intellectuals, I'm sure they would not want our winters anyways.

The Iraqi, and Mexicans, and others who come into this country, are here to take over this country from the inside out. It's done by making us believe that they are comming here for a better life. They are hurting the people who are already here to better themselves,at our expense. If you rob from someone to get ahead, you'd go to jail.Just ask any police officer.

Great, we get many more, we might as well rename the state, Little Iraq. The state is BROKE, the last thing we need are more people that refuse to live our way of life and expect US to do the changing.

We, need jobs for Michigan residents you bring these people in and give them a buissness to run taxes free, but you wont set me up with one or the residents of Mich. that are on unemployment or even out of unemployment and looking for work, I believe in giving people a chance but you need to put our people back in jobs first. And if they cannot speak our language then teach them that first this is an english speaking country

I do not know specifics but did you know that some convenience store owners (and I don't mean a few)do not have to pay taxes for 7 years? Then, when the 7 years are over they will transfer ownership to a brother or family memeber, bring them to the states and go another 7 years without paying taxes. It goes on and on from there.

This information was provided laughingly by a convenience store owner in Grand Rapids.

it wasnt long ago that two men were arrested for buying and selling block loads of cell phones. if you go to http://www.homelandsecurityus.com/cellularDea... you can read about it. the state is filling up with terrorists and gramholm wants to cut off medicad payments to tax paying citizens to balance her budget but give these people free state aid to everything. jobs , medical treatment , housing and schooling. its time to shut the door . say no more of these terrorists in the state and get rid of the bums running it.

Wow Skeeter! That's pretty thought provoking. The article written by John Livingston is even more so.

oh check this out...taken from the Lansing State Journal...I'm starting to see the problem...

"Were you searching for a state lawmaker's salary?
Salaries for Michigan elected officials are set by recommendation of the State Officers Compensation Commission.
According to the SOCC, elected officials' salaries are as follows:
• Governor Granholm:$177,000 plus a $60,000 expense account
• Lt. Gov. John Cherry:$123,900 plus a $20,000 expense account
• Supreme Court justices:$164,610
• State senators and representatives:$79,650 per year plus a $12,000 expense account
• Lawmakers in leadership positions can earn up to an additional $27,000 per year
• Attorney General Mike Cox:$124,900
• Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land:$124,900"

Here are a few others I collected...

The governor of Indiana's yearly salary is $95,000.

Kentucky??$9,710 (from http://www.heraldleaderonline.com/salary2006/... )

Georgia? George (Sonny) Perdue (he's from the US)$ 130,192.32 $ 1,076.18 (for travel)(from https://www.audits.state.ga.us/esa/search.aud )
