Furniture Express closes Michigan stores

Furniture Express abruptly shut down operations in Metro Detroit Friday after negotiations with Comerica Bank failed, store owners affiliated with the discount furniture brand confirmed. via Detroit News

Id like to know what all of us customers are supposed to do! Alot of friends and family including myself had furniture in layaway. I personally had a 1000 sofa in layaway. Only owed another 150 on it. My mother had a queen bed materess, box spring and head and foot board. The cost of this was 1600 and she only had a balance of 380 left. So I guess the consumer gets screwed. Out our money and no furniture. Co-america could of let the owner of this company contact the people that had layaways. Especially the ones that already paid big bucks and only had a few hundred to pay. As usual the small little consumer gets the shaft. Who gets the money? Not the owner of this company. The banks get it. It is totally unfair that the banks can do this to a business such as furniture express and who pays the bill without the priduct but the customer

It is December now and this is the first that I have heard of this! Why wan't there any letters sent out or calls placed to customers that still have/had layaways? I still have a layaway and would either like my furniture or my money back! How long is it going to take to get a refund? I happen to notice something was wrong this week when i passed by the store and white paper was up to the windows. This store must have just closed recently because it was still open last month.

We have been played by the store for five months, lies, lies and more lies! You can contact Amherst Partners. This post would not let me post the phone number. They are handling the liquidation of the stores. They are in the process of sending out paperwork to the customers that are owed money...But isn't it odd that the store opened up the next day under the new name of Park Furniture!!!

So you want people to use credit and get further in debt. Layaway affords you a way of obtaining the things not immediately but at least when you bring the merchandise home it's paid for completely.

I thank you for the information. I had just got off the phone with someone at Comerica Corporate Press and they gave my the name and number for Amherst to call. So we'll see what happens.:-)

Sorry you lost your money, but after all the horror stories I hear about layaway crap, I would never trust my stuff with a stores layaway program.
I save for what I want, then purchase it.

I don't buy anything on credit either, I choose to live within my means.

All I can say is that I am thankful this untrustworthy dump is going out of business. I bought a ton of furniture from them out of their Flint store about two years ago. I've had nothing but problems with them, they have horrible customer service. Their delivery men literally broke my sofa back and the company would not take it back. My kids bunk beds (put together by the delivery people) literally came crashing down two months after we got it. Our living room end tables came without the handles to open the drawers. You guessed it, they wouldn't take care of that either. I'll be having a party celebrating their closure. See Ya...you deserve it! I hope the owner goes bankrupt himself!

He states that the Pastor there is his personal friend and religious mentor. He was married in this church, and his children were baptized there as well. Having said that, and realizing that this is an important campaign for many reasons, I decided to research what makes up the core of Obama.



After you have read the site, please watch the you-tube video that the church provides. If you have any question whether this is truly his church, look for him in the video. He is one of the men sitting at the table shaking hands. I also suggest you "google" Barack Obama's church and see what comes up.

PARK FURNITURE is not owned by the same person as the other F/E locations that were closed. Customer who had deposits were sent a letter letting them call make a appointment to go into the store to choose merchandise this didn't have to be done. The liquidation company wanted to honor their deposits again Furniture Express is bankrupt. Would you have gotten anything from them after creditors NOT. This is the real world this happening everyday in MIchigan Open your eyes

Nobody likes to see another business go out of business, especially in Michigan! Shame on all you people who are happy about this. If you think that Art Van and Gardner White doesn't have customer problems you are so sadley mistaken. I started shopping at Furniture express because of the zero problems I had with all my furniture. I to had furniture in layaway before they closed. I recieved a letter in the mail from the liquidation company explaining the closing of furniture Express and allowed me so much time to use my layaway money for an instore credit.

Cont... You people who are complaining need to stop throwing away mail that you think is just junk mail! You can say that you weren't notified, but you were! Tell ya another thing! The liquidation sale is incredible! Even if I didnt recieve my money back, I would have made it up on the money I saved at the liquidation sale. So get off Furniture express. Maybe try praying for his family. Definitly get off the liquidation company. They are actually doing us a sevice to try and help us through this. Shame on you negative people here. That is alot what is wrong with Michigan!
