I an going to condone the fact that this has happened or the breed. But has it occured to anybody that possibly the boy was told that the kids of the house were going to be gone that weekend / week to camp and to not come over? This is not ALL the dogs fault. Fault falls on both parties from what I can see (trying to be objective). I am not a relative nor do I personally know these people. How does anyone know that the boy did not have a stick or something in his hand and poke or smack the dogs to give them reason for this horrific accident? The fact is that NOBODY knows therefore blame cannot be soley put upon the dogs or the owners of the dogs especially if they were behing the fence and someone comes in the yard after being told not to come over. This is a terrible and horrific thing that happened and my regrets go to both parties involved.

screw all of you people who stereotype pits. they are an amazing dog breed. ive had 2 pits so far and they were all loyal to me. you guys are all ignorant. bc of stupid people like you pits cant stay more than 9 days in a shelter before its put down. so to be honest with you. you people are ignorant and deserve to go to hell. and the pit wouldnt have bit that kid for no reason. the kid probably taunted the pit. i think instead of pits being euthanized it should be dumb people such as yourselves.

Great research. A pitt is not a pure blood line. I have seen a plain dog trained to kill. Rusk County has PITT fights with dogs and roosters. Bloody, cruel, what is fun to people. As for pitts attacking, my own grandchild was attacked in the face by a nothing dog. That animal was looking her "straight in the eyes". It saw another dog. For the family that lost the child, I grieve.....but do NOT let SOMEONE make a circus over a tradgy as we have seen.

I don't understand how people can be so disgustingly blind to the world. These are animals that we have bred and manipulated into their current form... the reality is that pit pulls attack for one of a few legitimate reasons: inbreeding, aggressive treatment/training/abuse by humans, lack of socialization, pack mentality... these are all things that we, as humans, did to these dogs. We've taken over the earth as if we're the only things on the planet with a brain and any sort of claim to it all, yet we get all up into arms when nature lets us know that we've f*ed up? I don't see anyone blaming the polar ice caps for global warming.
that being said, i love pit bulls. people do, however, tend to be idiots a lot of the time. these dogs are a blessing in the right hands, provided that they are properly supervised (which all dogs should be) and not significantly inbred.
And a final note... people go crazy over banning pits and calling them dangerous while there are significantly more murders committed by humans than deaths from pitbulls in bad situations. HUMANS are dangerous. Shall we ban us all then?

I definitely didn't say that dogs aren't dangerous. I said that we create that which we now try to shun. My point is that there are countless other things in the world that are more dangerous than pits. of the likely hundreds of thousands of pit bulls in the USA, only the smallest fraction of a percent are "killer dogs." That being said, my point is not that pits cannot be dangerous, but that violence is a part of the American culture and is a problem that is perpetuated by our citizens and our intolerance. The dogs that cause "destruction" as you say, are merely products of their environment. One could intentionally raise a killer human just as one could intentionally raise a killer dog (abuse, violence, etc).
Pit bulls can do damage, but how dare you suggest that anything existing on this planet does more damage than humans???
Get off your high horse and work on the problems of American dysfunction, such as the fact that our murder rate is at least 5x (but up to 10x) higher per 100,000 people than virtually all other developed countries. I would say that that's a much bigger problem than pit bulls.
