Renee Taylor Speaks to the Bradley County Quorum Court Regarding Dangerous Dogs

There are 13 comments on the story from May 17, 2010, titled Renee Taylor Speaks to the Bradley County Quorum Court Regarding Dangerous Dogs. In it, reports that:

Tonight, Renee Taylor, private investigator and manager of The Taylor Company in Warren, appeared before the Bradley County Quorum Court to discuss the issue of dangerous dogs and irresponsible owners. Below is her presentation in its entirety:

I would like to thank our Bradley County Quorum Court for allowing me to speak tonight. For those who do not know me, my name is Renee Taylor, resident of Bradley County for nearly 13 years. My husband, Mark, was born and raised here, a descendant of two family lines that settled our fine county in the period before and directly after the Civil War. I own The Taylor Company, a private investigations and research agency based here in Bradley County.

I come before the court this evening to discuss a problem that, while has been an issue for many years, has created a new set of problems for property owners with the passage of the new Arkansas animal cruelty act this past year. For the most part, those of us who own dogs, from house dogs to hunting dogs, tend to our animals, take care of our pets. We do not allow them to roam free to destroy people, property and others’ livestock and pets. However, there are those who do not have that consideration for their pets and for the safety and property of others. The passage of the new law has allowed those irresponsible pet owners to bring law-abiding citizens to court charged with “animal cruelty”, when, in fact, they were only protecting their OWN property, animals and families.

It was an honor and a privilege to speak to our Quorum Court tonight. I find it troublesome that those only trying to protect themselves, their homes and their families are having to be pulled through this by irresponsible people.

The cases are continually being tried in the court system, but that does not discount the fact that if you are going to own a dog - or any animal - YOU must take responsibility. Do not let it roam in someone else's yard, kill their animals, harm their families and expect no punishment.

I find this article ridiculous, especially the sterotype given to the pitt bull breed. I agree however, the pitt bull does have bad rap, but mostly due to irresponsble pet owners as you so put yourself, and a dog is only what the owner makes it. I love the quote "This animal was everything you would expect from the breed," The APBT is a vey intelligent, loyal, and protective dog and almost always willing to please its master. By no means are they people-haters or man-eaters. I would also like to throw out there for viewers there is two sides to every story as many of you know. I am strongly against banning any breed, however if I get bit by a 3lb Chihuhua you think it would attract any media? People would just laugh. It seems to me there could of been another solution to the problem other than shooting the mans dog...sorry.

Mizzbosslady,
I would first suggest you learn how to spell "pit bull".
Second, if you read the court records, witness testimony and depositions, you will see that this creature was a menace. Parker was not supposed to have the dog here to begin with, much less abandon it here while he disappeared. It was killing guineas, tried to get in the miniature horse pen and was chasing people. My in-laws were at their wit's end and, after finding out what happened to Mrs. Doss and our son, Mark could not allow this thing to harm any person and any more animals.
If this was such a beloved pet, why wasn't it cared for? Why was it allowed to run wild on someone else's property - someone who didn't want it here to begin with? Maxly wasn't even here and "Cousin Mama" apparently didn't want at their house or else we wouldn't be having this issue, now would we?
I have friends who raise pit bulls (please note the proper spelling) and I am around them on a regular basis. However, the first one that charges anyone in a threatening manner or kills animals, they'll put the dog down themselves.
In the future, I would suggest Maxly keep his dogs chained or restrained in some manner - such as he does now - and if he disappears again to rehab, Wolfe Street or wherever, find someone responsible to tend to them.

I've seen people spell it both ways actually, but excuse my grammar if it appears to you and others incorrectly. I personally don't know the story behind the dog, I just read the article like these other folks here and stated my own opinion on the matter so I do not know why you are directing those questions above at me,better to address Mr. Parker with them directly seeing as it was his dog and only he could reply with the answers.:)

It just seems to me like I stated above there could of been another solution to the problem. Was there no way you could of called the local humane society/dog catcher and explain to them the issue and recieve advice (or get them to pick up the "PIT BULL" that was so called "dumped" on your in-laws property basically)? Was there no way to conact Mr. Parker's family or friends? Sorry but I do pride myself in being an animal lover, and I am pleased with Arkansas new animal cruelty law that has been passed. I'm just saying, then you could of avoided the whole animal cruelty charge and save a whole lot of money on attorney fees, etc.

I would like to apologize, I was not trying to start conflict or offend anyone and I hope fair justice in served in this case. God Bless.

Dog owners ourselves, Mark and I solidly stand behind our actions. Parker and his "cuzzins" should have taken care to make sure the animal wasn't a threat - which is was - and they didn't.

I do not have an ounce of sympathy for Parker or anyone else who allows a dangerous animal to terrorize a neighborhood. If you care for an animal, you do not let it run loose where it is not welcome. If it is a dangrous animal, such as this one was, you keep it penned up or don't keep it at all. I have to wonder - he claimed he thought "Cousin Haley", her boyfriend, Michael, and "Cousin Mamma" were caring for his animal while he was in "rehab". Why weren't they in court? Maxley and the dog meant nothing to them or else they would have kept it at their home while he was away who knows where. His so-called friends care not one bit for him or his dog.

No, Parker did wrong by leaving the animal in a place he knew it wasn't supposed to be and if he has any issues, it should be with those he claimed were "caring" for the beast. He should feel lucky (if you can while sitting in the Ashley County lock-up) that the beast didn't hurt our neighbor or my son - it DID kill innocent guineas and attempted to get to the miniature horse.

I do have faith that the judge will do what is right in this case - in any event, dog-gone....

Mr. Taylor was doing what he had to do to protect his young son, his friends and his neighbors.
Mr. Taylor did what he always does, What everyone else can't or won't do.
Bradley county knows that Parker has a long criminal record and that Parker is a know drug user/dealer. Bradley county is also aware of Mr. Taylor's family and their drug use history.
Mr.Taylor will beat this bad Arkansas law, Bruce Anderson's bad decision and the bad people behind this attack on him.

My advise is don't fuck with Mark Taylor. He will beat you everytime....

Dangerous dogs
Unlike other dog breeds, Pit bulls were selectively bred for dogfighting.

Today most pit bull owners are drug dealers and use the pit bulls to guard their drugs/drug house.

Find a pit bull and your will find drugs/drug dealers.
