We've had people tell us that 'Main Street' in downtown Murphy has good food at reasonable prices .... ate there for lunch today and I couldn't eat it all (they serve your plate, you don't do it yourself).... had the buffet with hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, broccoli/cheese casserole, biscuit and ice tea and the total cost for two meals was a little over $10 .... the place was packed and it's a big place .... we almost never found a parking place .... I can now see why .... it's like home cooking and I've heard they're hamburgers are the best in town.

They also had fried Pollock fish, but we cook our own fish so we didn't get any .... their buffet is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Murphy's best kept secret as it looked like mainly locals eating there .... service people, people in the health care industry etc.

I liked them better when they were in the 2 story red building they used to have. It was in the exact spot Captain D's is now. Although they didn't have a buffet, they still had the best/cheapest burgers in town. The place was as small as the Sweeth Tooth.
... memories.

But without a doubt, nothing can beat Main St.. at least in a local sense. Buying that old bank building was probably the best thing that ever happened to Main St.

Same name, different resturant. The other one was owned by Steve Dickey. he has no part of the one across from Nantahal Bank.

I was told that the present owners of Main Street were in fact the previous owners but Steve Dickey owned the building and not the business. Is this wrong.

Ive eaten lots of burgers at both locations and to the best of my knowledge the same guy owned both old & new. If not he did one hell of a job cloning the burger:-) Can someone verify this? dockeryz maybe you know? I agree with your post by the way, good memories of the original Main Street with the 2 drive thrus:-)

I honestly have no clue who owns Main Street. Seeing as though the old Main St was at Captain D's current location, I wouldn't doubt Steve owns it, but I could be wrong.

Main Street has always had the same owner. Steve Dickey did own the other building. This guy, I believe is Mr. Stalcup, correct me if I'm wrong. But he keeps the kitchen immaculate and is very particular with his employees and the right kind of food for our area, which is good. Plus, there is always a good atmosphere there with lots of friendly people. Also, the only place in town to get a good corn dog. And the breakfast menu is also great---yummm.

I only hope they change the menu frequently as we go to town a certain day of the week and we don't care to eat the same thing every time we go to town.

Funny, because when the old Main Street first opened, Steve invited me to come by and get a good old fashioned burger, and when I did, he was inside the store supervising the employees. Wonder how that happened? maybe he started it and sold it to Mr. Hembree....

Anyway, both were/are good food at reasonable prices. Where else can you get a decent burger all the way, fries and free refill drink for 2.99 plus tax?

by the way, Mainstreet has the best pancakes for breakfast, plus two strips of bacaon, for $2.39. I've eaten at just about every house of pancakes on the redneck riviera (myrtle beach) and none are near as good as the ones at Mainstreet.

I thought his sister cindy owned the sweet tooth, but maybe she just runs it. I thought her ex-husband built it for her before they divorced years ago.

PLEASE JUST TRUST ME I know both Steve and Cindy VERY VERY WELL!! Steve was the first owner of Main Street and he NOW owns Sweet Tooth, Cindy runs the Sweet Tooth. I tell everyone who asks who has the best food to go to Main Street...if they aren't counting calories!!

My only problem with Main St is that they don't change around their Hot Bar menu .... it's the same depending on what day of the week you eat there and their staples are mashed potatoes and green beans, BUT their food is always good at reasonable prices ... I just wish they'd change their menu around.

People are lined up from 11:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and it's mainly locals.
