Do not base your decision on this site. I did the same thing a few months back....later I found out there is a small handful of individuals playing different characters. They complain about Yankees and Floridians. They gripe and moan. We have lived here for
8 months now and love it! It's a nice town, our neighbors are great! Two have lived here all their lives and one is from Florida.
This area is beautiful! If you are retired you will do well, but if you need a job, not much here until the casino is built. They are hiring now for that. Have you stayed here before? Come and rent first and see what you think.

Also, do not take to heart what is said here.
This is not a true picture of this area. Some individuals are called trolls. They bounce from one Topix to another trying to stir things up.
Keeps everyone reading Topix....and some of these individuals have nothing better to do with their time.

How's the old drug dealing pillar of the Murphy community and the child molesting teacher at the elementary school doing these days? I assume whatshisname - Tom Posey?- is still dead and buried, or maybe alive and well in Belize. As screwed up as Murphy is, nothing is as it seems.

Unfortunately, you can get that anywhere. But, I'm
surprised about the teacher....don't they do background checks down here?? A child molester elsewhere wouldn't be allowed near kids....and he certainly wouldn't be allowed to be a teacher.
Actually he'd be spending a lot of time in prison and then would be a registered sex ofender.

A "background check" consists of running the name, along with a DOB, through NCIC and DOES NOT include a background investigation (operative word) into his or her suitability for a position of trust and responsibility! That boils down to; if the subject doesn't have a record (convictions) and there are no wants and warants on him or her that are outstanding, they're "good to go."

Too many Floridians, with their terrible driving habits, live in Murphy.

Many of the locals do too. Also, the same in Blairsville.
Murphy still is a nice town. You get "crazy" drivers everywhere
unfortunately.
Saw a license plate holder that said"Do you follow Jesus this close?" Think I'm going to get one of those. Saw them on Amazon.com

The best teeshirt I've seen was on a biker, and read; "If you can read this, the bitch fell off."

we moved back to the mountains after having to go to fla to care for the folks till they passed. we missed the mountains something aweful. please do not blame all the folks from fla. most are not from fla they moved there and gave it a bad name. we love murphy but like anywhere else you get the same drama garbage some can not live without it in thier lives.bad drivers are everywhere.trouble makers too. murphy is a great place to live. quiet, peaceful and safer than most anywhere. if not for the rampant drug problem crime would be non exsistant.kids are bored and some adults refuse to grow up.murphy and most all who live here are good, honest hard working americans that would defend it with thier lives. it is not just here it is everywhere. we need to stop fighting each other, take our country back. the one our fathers fought for. enough is enough. someone needs to grow a pair and put a stop to the private party in the white house. if it was anyone else living in "our house" he would have been inpeached, prosecuted for his crimes and run out of town. so.... come on lets not complain to each other stand up to our elected empolyees who work and are paid by us. make them know we want our country back on track. we need to stop blaming left or right, blue or red we are americans this is our country and we want it back. there is no excuses for the damage being done to us. do you want a free country for your children or grandchildren? ONE MORE THING WE SHOULD BE MORE ANGRY THAT GRANDPARENTS HAVE NO RIGHTS IN NC THAN THE RIGHTS BEING GIVIN TO OPPOSSUMS. SOMETHINGS REALLY WRONG WHEN LEGISLATION FOR THE RODENT TO BE DROPPED ON NEW YEARS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN OUR CHILDREN OR GRANDCHILDREN. GET IT TOGETHER PEOPLE STAND UP FOR WHATS RIGHT FOR ALL OF US.

Yes, I agree Murphy is a great place to live. I also like the close proximity to other towns in Georgia and Tennessee.
This is our first spring here and with everything blooming, it is becoming even more beautiful.

Tens of thousands of Floridians were originally from the Northeast and relied on public transportation to get to and from work. Because of this, personal cars got used very rarely...weekends, holidays and vacations. Drivers who move to Florida in their sixties have limited experience behind the wheel and it shows. The most blatant example is they are totally incapable of judging distances which is why a Floridian will always pull in front of you, especially when you have the right-of-way. North Carolina drivers have been behind the wheel since they were 12 years old.

12 years old, huh? Well, that doesn't make them good drivers.
How can someone from here be such an authority on drivers in Florida? I agree with that other person. Your comments are bogus.
