U.S. courts in Fairbanks, other Alaska cities could close
Federal courts in Fairbanks, Juneau, and Ketchikan would be shut down under a cost-saving plan by the government, according to a report today by The Associated Press.

Closing so many Alaskan federal courts simply transfers a lot of the expense burden from the government to private individuals-- the people required to travel long distances to file or defend cases, appear as witnesses or otherwise conduct business requiring federal court services. And the closures would no doubt INCREASE the cost taxpayers must bear for transporting defendants to trial.
Not a wise idea in my opinion...
