Mr. Logic, for the longest time I used to hear the older generation in my family talking about black panthers in WV my whole life. As a kid I used to believe it, then as I got older I did some research and found that they were not indigenous to that part of the country. So, I blew it off as them seeing a bobcat or maybe even a black bear.
Later after I graduated high school, I joined the military and left home for awhile. One summer I went home on leave and was heading back to my mothers house near Beech Fork State Park with a friend of mine and his wife. As we came around a curve standing on the side of the road about twenty five feet in front of the truck was a black pather. I estimated it to be a little taller than German Shepherd and about a foot longer in length. As I looked out the window is disbelief, my friend's wife turned and looked at me and screamed, "Do you see that! It's a panther!"
Im a believer now!

I saw a cub(definately not a house cat) long tale green eyes from 15 feet away. It ran right at me and when it got about 10 to 15 ft away it darted the other direction kinda playfully. This was in Wirt county, WV btw. I also saw a HUGE mountain lion or whatever you want to call it run across the road not even a mile from the same location. Scientists think that they know everything! But know soo little. They have weeeee wittle brains. Haha

Try to fit in man you might get shot round those parts. Or worse neck bit by a black panther. The claws will probably hurt so just lay down and surrender yourself.

I know they exist. For a long time I was skeptical and then one evening on the way home from work(in Logan County)on RT.52 going towards Mingo County I saw one run across the road and it kinda jumped up on the guard rail and quickly allowed its front paws to go to the ground on the other side. Its back feet were still up on the rail and its tail was so long it hung down almost touching the ground on the other side. On the same stretch of road about a week or two before that and only few miles closer to Logan County I witnessed a cougar standing in a straight stretch of road. Our head lights seemed to stun it cause it was looking right at us as we slowed down. you could see the black lines that run down the sides of its nose and everything, but they say they are no longer around here as well. I think the black panthers are the offspring of normal eastern cougars, because after my sightings I did some research and eastern cougars did exist in these mountains years ago. However, people thought they were extinct from this part of the country due to hunting years ago. I also found out that cougars can have black cubs though it is rare. So all these people who think we are just dumb, drunk hillbillies mistakenly identifying black cats for panthers need to stop "mistakenly identifying" people from here as ignorant. I wait for the day they happen to visit our region, decide to go hiking or four wheeling on our many trails ,and they happen across(or maybe even get attacked by)one of these elusive creatures. Then when they go home to tell their story no one believes them.
i saw a black panther back in the mid 90's i was coming home from church one night around 10pm and here were i live at Bartley WV when i was coming home from church that night and when i got up to Bartley Tipple Bottom a black panther dash out in front of me and like to scared me to death and i knew it was a black panther it was the biggest black panther i have ever seen.

My family has lived in Robbinsville nc for almost 200 years. My father and I were driving down from New Jersey to my grandfathers funeral. And driving through Asheville, we both most definitely saw a very large, jet black cat. It crossed the road in front of us and almost hit our car. I thought for a split second it was a bear cub. But IT WAS A CAT. Twice the size of a bobcat. They are there!

< are also hyenas too. I know of two people that don't know each other, from completely different areas that saw a hyena. Laugh all you want. They have been seen in Kentucky too. Now who's sneaking those darn things in here?
