I have heard these guys in the guy. They are such Geeks. Just trying to bring attention to themselves probably because they dont get it anywhere else. You shouldn't have to hear these pea brains making noises when you are trying to workout, its annoying. But to ban them, I dont know if that is going a little too far.

In today's society people are less accountable for their actions. Cudo's to the gym.

I guess this is one of those "I'm a woman, hear me roar", and "if you can't I'll throw you out so I'll be equal".

If people are offended in grunting and dropping weights, then stay home and work out. Grunting is all a part of work outs. It is NOT intimidating...it is a known fact that grunting while working out brings more energy to the workout allowing the person to be able to go further in their workout.
This rule is discriminating and demeaning. If I were this person, I would be going after the gym on a basis of discrimination and that (like he said) grunting is open to interpretation. Were the rules clearly written out as to what constitutes a grunt? I've heard people at the gym clearing their throats and it sounds like grunting.
This rule is uneducated and should be re-evaluated.

Also - what pisses me off is when they do one rep and put on a show - WANNA IMPRESS ME - do SEVERAL reps without overly grunting - that'll show me you aren't faking it -maybe then I'll be impressed.
You are missing the point of why some men workout. They aren't there to impress you and do a lot of reps. doing multiple reps is going to help someone lose weight and tone down. A man wants to bulk up...therefore, he will lift higher weights and less reps.

Hurray!!!- Seriously, these so called grunters - stop trying to show off your weakness - REAL MEN don't grunt & go around prancing around like a wrestler putting on a show. If it's too heavy - remove a pound or two - SHEESH!!
Again...Before you comment, learn about the subject.

Good for her. I think all health spas should take up the same practice. I cant stand grunters. Its a sign of insecurity and a way to seek attention. They grunt so everyone will look over and see how much weight their lifting which I really couldnt give a crap. These are also usually the same pigs that leave their sweat all over the last piece of equipment they use without wiping it off. If you need to grunt that bad then take up tennis. Have you ever went to the gym with the same goals as these men? Apparently not. They go to bulk up. They grunt for energy. You should try lifting what they lift and not make one sound. You can't do it.

Listen, those of you who are talking about the benefits of grunting are the ones who need to "learn about the subject".

1. This unnecessarily spikes the blood pressure. There are better methods of increasing oxygen uptake. Google "janda breathing" for just ONE.

2. 83% of the N.A. population is inactive, largely due to their perceptions of what is involved in a gym. Do you really beleive this is not intimidating, if not ridiculous behavior?

3. A private business, last I checked in U.S. or Canada, is definitely allowed to set the etiquette and criteria. Would you walk into a nice restaraunt without a shirt? Save your discrimination comments for things that matter like sex, race, nationality, religion, not for "grunters" who have poor self image and are trying to let everyone around them know how hard they're working out. IT'S FAKE HUSTLE.

4. Grunting for energy? Oh I see, this is a new phase of Kreb's cycle. Idiots.

5. And in case I get the argument back of "mental energy", supplement with some well selected aminos to assist with focus such as l-tryptophan 2.5 g etc. Or, try mediating or getting consistent sleep. Try correct hydration. All of these things are actually proven to increase efficacy and alertness as opposed to the infamous gym wisdom of meatheads.

6. Or, go back to some hard core dirty dingy gym and go back to heavy grunting. While your at it, fake an arnold accent, use chalk, get red faced and hold your breath, do leg press instead of squats, hold the treadmill while you run at an incline, use the stepper in reverse, and wear the same shirt 5 days in a row at the gym. Also, rent dodgeball and do your best not to look like Ben Stiller while you're at it. HILARIOUS. Don't you realize why that's funny? Or do you need to "grunt" while watching the movie to take it all in most effectively?

I run a health club, and I got no real problem with those guys as long as they go to some hardcore gym where it's appreciated. I dead 5 plates, squat 4 (yes past 90), and I can pull up with 135 extra pounds. I don't grunt, and I don't use drugs, and I don't wear string tank tops, and I don't use chalk. I also don't drop weights - I LIFT THEM. Grow up and man up. And, stop reading FLEX magazine etc. for your fitness info. Might I suggest hiring a trainer?

What about these ninnies yakking on their cell phones about what club they will be going to tonight, or the normals that are taking up space on a bench talking about how well junior did in the school spelling bee? These are the people that should be banned.

Grunting is about putting forth effort, farting is the sign of a healthy digestive system.

Heaven forbid if anyone would work out to their full potential and gain any muscle mass or improve their level of fitness at these “gyms”
