How ridiculous. Just what the state needs is more casinos. All the casinos do is steal from the poor to give to the rich. We already have too many casinos which help draw money from other businesses.

Correct! However, there is one casino in the state that donates most of its earnings to charities and to the state....if other casinos are allowed to open, the money they bring in will decrease and that means less that will go back to the state....Prairie Meadows has given over $435 million back to the community...not only Polk County, but all around the state...so not all casinos are bad...just most.:-P

"all they do is..."-----REALLY. You should do your homework. Contact the non-profit group in each county that holds a gaming license and ask them what groups have benefited from a casino's revenues. Trust me casinos can't even "rob from the poor" that many millions!!!! Addictive personalities are either feeding their addictions or fighting them off. If they are feeding-they will find the bait. Whether it's a casino or a scratch ticket or a bingo parlor ran by a church or non-profit group or in a card game with friends or betting on a sports event. GIVE 4 LICENSES

I disagree. Casinos are not stealing from the poor. I have never seen a casino grab someone off the street and force them to gamble. Anyone who steps foot inside a casino is there of their own free will and if they choose to gamble it is their responsibility to make sure they can afford to lose what they play. I can feel no remorse for someone who goes into a casino with their last 20 dollars and chooses to gamble instead of pay their bills or buy food. If they choose of their own free will to spend their last dollar, it is only their own fault if they lose. Casinos even help support the 1-800-bets-off program as well.

Don't we have enough casinos in the State of Iowa? Why do we need more? Is it for Iowans to be more addicted to gambling? Why do they even have the hotline to help gamblers when the Governor is supporting the idea of having more casinos? Unfortunetly we now see how much the state cares about it's people...SAD!

This is so true and it is hard to feel sorry for them. I don't always do the right thing myself, but when someone does something repeatedly then there is a problem and I don't think we need to constantly bail them out. If you don't learn the lesson shame on you.

So if it is their last 20 dollars, who will bail them out when it is time to pay their bills and buy food? Probably will go to a charity and ask for a handout. So, now whoever supports the charities is really paying their bills.

Not only do these people need help to quit gambling they also need financial counseling to teach them how to be responsible with money.
