Wow just saw where someone got 2 and a half yrs for attempted murder. Should have used the life time look back on him. I am sure he would have gotten alot more.
I am sure that will be coming soon as well.
I just can't figure out why no one has started to do somthing about this. Can't we send it to Boston for a vote at least. What is it going to take.

don't you lazy ass politicians agree that there needs to be an update of the drinking laws? if you
were in that situation then you would be squirming to find a way out of it. the law only works if it benefits you right?.... come on man up! lets hear what you have to say if you have the guts!!

Learn how to spell you retard. YOU'RE an idiot, people who text and drive and use cell phones are over 5 times more likely to kill somebody than a drunk driver. Where's their Melanies law? Oh wait, thats probably you Mr emergency management guy. Get a clue before spitting out your two cents. It's fools like you that keep this country buried in debt and denial and allow people like Bush to get into office. It's mind boggling to think that you even have a job.

hey dax- for your information i don't have a dui never convicted and i have friends who are cops. i can't agree with a law that really is based on research on a few people over the decades and based on emotions. it's a tragedy when someone is killed by a drunk driver. that individual should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. but don't go after everyone who drives a vehicle on the road in massachusetts. people take things too far to an extreme.. i don't think people should be considered guilty before they have a chance to plea their case.i've done a lot of research on it for college.theres alot of modern day prohibitionists out there who want no drinking period! but the alcohol industry is this country's biggest revenue and money maker for the government. so think before you speak.

Melanie's law is pathetic and a violation of our civil rights. If you are arrested for DUI because you fail a breathalyzer or refuse to take one your license is automatically suspended for 30 days! The cops take your license on the spot! You are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, the cops make arrests, only a court can convict you, NOT ANY MORE. So, even if you go to trial and win the case, you still had your license suspended for 30 days and had to pay the scumbags at the registry $500 to get it back. Do they refund you your money if you're found not guilty, NO! WHAT A FUCKING JOKE! We are losing our rights every day and need to stand up to the crooked politicians, judges and cops. This is becoming a police state and I'm tired of jack booted Nazi pigs trampling all over our rights. Our founding fathers are rolling in their graves.

And the cops I see in the bars drink all night and get behind the wheel of their cars, and if they stay off the highway and away from the State Police, or don't kill anyone on their own roads, they get away with it. It's a fraternity - and without a badge and gun, you and I aren't in the club.

i got charged with oui pot when i was 17 years old {1988} the officer pulled me over for a rolling stop and smelled marijauna he asked me if i had been smoking i told him no my coworkers do everytime i give them rides home he then asked me to go to the hospital for a blood test and i said no said they charged me for oui drugs lost license for two years and thousands of dollars {BEING A MINOR}now 24 years later got pulled over and charged with oui alcohol the judge considered the span in years also oui drugs vs oui alcohol and amended it to oui one but the registry said melanies law TRUMPS any judge in the commonwealth wheres the justice in that. if i knew the laws had changed on oct 28 2005 and applied to people that got charged prior to that law being rewriting maybe people would be less willing to take the risk of having a relaxing drink with dinner

I'm not hearing enough about the level alcohol in our systems! 99% of ANYONE who goes out to a bar, drinks at a friends house, at a bbq, at a nice romantic dinner etc. is legally intoxicated!!!!!!!!!! How you "feel", has nothing to do with it! I guarantee that ALL of you who have had a loved one hurt or killed by a drunk driver and who still drink yourselves still, drive "drunk" So you are the real scumbags! If you drink at all, don't you dare complain about others who have a problem with this law! It is insane that someone who gets arrested 20 years ago for being barely over the limit should have to be accountable for that time now!!! Drunk drivers are not in anyway automatically "drunks" They are commonly everyday people who drink no more the the average person who happened to get pulled over!! "I made a mistake" I don't believe that! If I had two to three beers in a couple hours, I would consider myself 100% fine to drive!!! AND RIGHTFULLY SO!! Unfortunately I would probably be over the limit. Fine, hit me that once, but 10,20,30 or more years later continue to ruin my life because of that? That's absolutey disgusting insanity!!!!!!!!!!

I was convicted of a subsequent OUI in 2004. I was sent a letter by the RMV 1 year latter I was eligible for reinstatement. I held off and went and paid my reinstatement fee of $500.00, paid the fee to take the Learner's Permit and passed it in early 2006. When I went to schedule the road test I was denied due to the Melanie Law. I could have been reinstated before the law went into effect but did not have the money. Then I paid the state the reistatement fee and other fees and was shut down. I could not afford the maintenance of the "program" and had to sell my cars to pay my mortgage. I was elegible for reinstatement before the law took effect. Does anyone know if I have a case. If not I want my money back because I don't have my license reinstated but the Commonwealth has my money. Thanks
Like you I had an offense in 1992, and another in 2003
I paid the fines, took my lerners permit test, and passed,
I travel alot for work and was not around to take the driving
test, recently I went back to renew my lerners permit, take
test over again, and was told that now I was subject to the
melanie's law, where I would have to buy a car, and have the
IID installed and verified before I could do anything.
I understand that it is a privilege to drive and not a
right. But I feel I am definately being exposed to being
punished twice for the same crime, by a department that seems
to make up thier own rules as they go.
I just cannot understand how if I took the test 7 years
ago I was all set, with no problems.
But now, with nothing different than time gone by
that I am subject to this, They might as well say that
anyone with 2 prior convictions, no matter when, cannot
renew thier liscence with out installing the IID
