armed robbery is a felony and running over a deputy while trying to get away is murder so he was guilty.

Howell needs to find a new way of making a living if he thinks this guy is innocent. There is always that last second when he could have swerved and avoided hitting this police officer.

Why is the penalty stated as up to 30 years in jail for him ? Why can't the death penalty be given ? Move the scum bag's trial to Lexington County. I'll bet he would fry here . Prosecutor Donnie Myers doesn't mess around , he gets his man here. Would someone tell me why this wasn't premeditated murder ? He chose to run into Mr Parker.

Hey y'all : the article said he could receive up to 30 years . Why not more ? Yes ,The Donnie got a DUI , but he will get his man here. Look at his record. He has apologized to his family and friends and the people of Lexington. He made a mistake but I'll bet he'll keep his job! I for one want him as our prosecutor .

I don't care if he gets 10 DUI's. He puts them away and that's what we want and need in Lexington County. Something that allegedly happened out of state when he was on his own personal time is none of my business.

Mr. Ridel's defense attorney is doing his job - but I disagree with his statement that Mr. Ridel did not willfully hit the car of the Trooper - Yes he did when he did not willfully stop his car and stop running from the law. It was by his choice.

This person should be found guilty for killing Trooper Parker. It appears that he intentionally went off the road and hit Trooper Parker's cruiser.

This guy should get the death penalty, but so should all those individuals who murder. Police have a job to do and most do it well. But its like saying they are more important that the teen shot dead in the streets.

Police protect and serve and choose the occupation they are in. If its too dangerous for them then they should consider other occupations.

you have a point no life is more important than another. i never really gave thought to an eye for an eye saying until i became an adult. there is so much killing oing on that the news is the last thing i want to see on some days. as far as the opinion of if the job is too dangerous consider other options, you can't even work in an office without someone going "postal" it is a tough world and these people just happen to be in the line of fire. but without them and those that know the risks it would be a free for all. all most officers wnat to do is make it safe for us. even if it means giving up their life. they don't want the other options.

"You're not going to have any evidence that shows that Eric Ridel, running down the road, whether he's trying to run from police because of an offense or not, just willfully decided to run into the back of the officers car and kill him,” says Ridel’s defense lawyer, Jack Howell.

Hate to tell the defense, but if your client saw the car in front of him and he didn't hit the brakes...he meant to do it! Probably assumed if he hit hard enough he could knock a whole in the path.

Anyone who kills an officer in the lin of duty should be eligible for the death penalty. Period. The officers do assume a certain amount of risk when they take the job, but many will tell you it's not just a job to them. It's a calling. They certainly don't do it for those sky high salaries (LMAO!!!) and great amount of respect they get from the public in general. They do it because they love the job.
