Not for a whole of lot of us in town that couldn't afford the taxes to begin with.
And it came way too late for all of the foreclosures that happened. There were at least 3 that I know of within 1/2 mile of our stretch of town. These weren't McMansions just little family homes most of which were older not new construction. So what's that extra tax saving going to buy someone? Not even a tank of oil to heat the house.

It is a very poor area...and that unfortunately is happening all around us.

No use blaming our national economic depression on the liitle old town government!

Blame the town taxes being out of control on the federal government?? Give me a break.

No I blame it on people who don't go to vote in the town & school
meetings to say "NO - we can't afford it so cut things out of the budget" just like a whole lot of other towns in NH did this past year. Do without & cut things just like a whole lot of people in town do.

We couldn't afford more teachers' raises this past vote but for some reason the 100 or so people that showed up thought we could even though a whole lot of people that would be paying for them didn't get a pay raise at all or ended up with less wages or no job at all.

The 80 or so people that stayed for the whole town meeting didn't vote for raises for the town employees - is that fair? Did they not need more money? How about some more budget cutting across the board so people can afford to catch back up some.

A lot of people live on a decreasing budget, I think that the town made a good start last meeting now the school should do the same.

By the way the whole area isn't poor and it isn't happening all around us.

Maybe they need to get the town meeting onto the internet...give everyone a week to vote by internet or phone?

But you would hate government no matter what anyone said or did.

What are you talking about? " You would hate government etc."

Are you psychic? You have no idea what my ideas about government are & no, they don't include hating government. I just wrote my opinion & it seemed pretty clear that I was saying the problem is people that don't go vote & the fact that the school budget needs to get in line with people's pocketbooks in Hinsdale.

Budgets that keep getting raised when people aren't making more money to pay the taxes for it aren't sustainable.

I still haven't changed my mind...behind all of this is government hating even if this area was fat with income and pay rasies. You would still say we need to kill governmeent.

You are a government tax and spend terrorist...your weapon of mass destruction is to starve the beast in any manner possible. It is cutting budgets for the poor and giving tax breaks to the billionaires.

Tax breaks and subsidies to the billionaire me even as the nation is breaking apart as the funding mechanism for gov is breaking down.

You are out of touch with reality & you really need to have your head examined.
