Shame on you for the neglect to my bridge. Dont waste 6-8 million dollars please, just use common sense and rebuild the old coverd bridge. Cheaper and makes more sense.

Whatever the least efficient, most costly alternative would be, will be the mandated route from the stimulus idiots for this bridge. Be prepared for out of town crews with unlimited equipment parked in town for months/years longer than a "real" contracting outfit would take.
Then, when the job is finally done(defectively), DC will let the BF gang know that, "oh, by the way, we are only going to pay 25% of the job, ta ta!" Thank God for exit 6.

I believe there is a memorandum of agreement that the NHDOT would restore the Vilas Bridge if it were allowed to replace the Kellyville Bridge, a near sister span in design near Claremont, NH...

And after the loss of that most historic of NH bridges, the famed Bellows Falls Arch Bridge, maybe NH owe these border towns a proper restoration that includes returning the iconic globe lamp posts that once graced the Vilas Bridge.

It's just an old bridge with two others nearbye so not worth doing anything about besides closing it.

The bridge between Bellows Falls and Walpole was closed this week to automobiles and even foot traffic. The Dummerston bridge is at the top of the list to be replaced and won't be replaced until 2010. The Brattleboro Hinsdale bridge is going to drop a few cars into the river before it gets closed and or replaced. The creamery bridge is slated to be replaced as it is undersized and crates a traffic danger. I am not sure of the plans, but am hoping that the Creamery bridge is kept for foot traffic and the cars moved to a new bridge. This is not the time to demand fancy bridges. We have to many needing replacement to spend money of esthetics.

that would be nice, but where? i can't think of too many suitable places to put an additional bridge. i suppose you could put one just to the east of the creamery bridge(?), but that doesn't seem ideal.

I am now a NH Resident, former VT Resident..So instead of placing blame everyhwhere Nh's fault, etc why cat we list all the bridges mentioned here and more Im sure, by priority and NH and Vt should split it. We all utilize these bridges why does it HAVE to fall to ONE state for repairs..

The Creamery bridge could be moved to the property next to where it currently sits? That house is abandoned is it not and on the same side of the street as the park. A sidewalk on that side of the street could be built to the new location or perhaps a foot path from the Memorial Park parking lot to the bridge. Not sure what all that would cost though and even if the town could condemn the old house or buy the land.

NH wanted the river, they get the bridges.

As to the Vilas. If they do decide to not fix or replace it at all, I hope they at least tear it down. No one wants to look at a rotting and useless hunk of concrete. They could make a scenic riverfront area for viewing the gorge or something.....with a good fence.

I cross the bridge a few times a month and never saw anyone who was violating the traffic laws. If there is a problem with people breaking the law, take it up with the people paid to enforce the law.

Should have let it fall into the river, make the national news, pretend a few are missing, and reap the tourist and media vigil money. NBC, ABC and CBS could do live feeds showing how the last 8 years have destroyed this bridge.... and how Obama is your Mama.. bo ho bo ho..

Probably this bridge is better than most in Vermont! Most bridges here are falling apart as well. At least NH knows the bridge is a problem and closed it. In Vermont, we would just keep it going until someone fell in!
