Probably Jacob Lawson LOL. Wants to act and look the tough football player part but pretends to get a concussion or other injury at every game. Anything for attention.

Yes the Hoxie kids have been an excellent addition to the team, but this same group went undefeated in JR high without them. Have you forgotten about all the WR boys that moved to Hoxie a few years back when the mustangs were deep in the playoffs? It only shows me that no matter which color worn on Friday night that we have football talent in this small part of the state and should be proud of that. I'm not sure about the greatest players though. The '72 Cats played in the state championship game and has a group go undefeated 2 consecutive years in the late 50's I believe it was.

I will always say that Clay Bibb was one of our best! Anyone you can run the whole hundred yards for a touchdown in the last few mins of a game to get the win earns a bad a$$ badge for the year and should be remembered

They beat Jonesboro, Searcy, Batesville, Paragould, Bald Knob, Pocahontas, Newport, Corning, Beebe and McCrory each year in that streak.. In 59 only gave up 60 points to these powerful schools.. Half those by The 2nd string in Blow outs...
Sam Hilburn, Denny Brown, Relton Allison, Marv Kennedy, Charles Mcnutt, JC Mann, John Henry Staten, George Chesser, Jackie Parks, Mac Justus, Milton Worsham .etc were of a golden era... But all will tell you Samuel Orville Weir was one of a kind and a great guy to boot...
These guys and Gabby Hayes with George Glenn Jr., Chester Berry, Glenn Murphy, JOel Waggoner also were part of WR Glenns great Regional Baseball Powerhouse teams. Great Track teams... Basketball so so...But they got pretty fair by the end of the year as most schools in the county played round ball year round...
Great era was truly the Golden Era of Bobcat History...

Pound for pound, Sammy Weir had the most bang for the buck from what I here. I've met him recently, as he is still kickin' butt as HS Football coach in the area. Not to big, thought you'd be bigger...lol
The population of the towns and teams they played back then were mostly much larger. They no question about it were a great TEAM. In todays high priced superstar me,me,mentality we forget the ones who make history are the Best Teams.

In my era, late 70's Bull Shrable. He was a man among men for surefor sure. Judging only on athleticism, another good one was Mac McClain with his speed, Terry Wicker was also multi-sport high level player. 78 team was the last to play the bigger schools and still go undefeated, but lost in first round. damn...lol
I've watched this current bobcat team and they have some talent, and very little quit in them. They have advanced to the 3rd round in the playoffs and are playing Murfeesboro <> this friday.Eric Wilcoxson and serveral others are standouts but they have a can do attitude as a team. They have already exceded most everyone's expectations.

Wish WR and Hoxie could resume their rivalry!

Roger on ur comments~I watched little Mac McClain run down fouls at the old Legion field in the east End of the Ridge~Sammy, Mac and Gary Guthrie of 65 class were the fastest I can recall~In a straight 100 Mac might have had a step on them~The guy could fly~Sammy had the most open field talent thou~Turn on a dime and shift gears fluid~Shifty and slick~Sammy had great hands as well and was a stellar QB-WR for ASU~Little All American~Had he been 2-3 inches taller and 20 lbs heavier he would have been a star in the pros~Aka Lance Alworth~He was that good~ He was a 9.8 man in college~Mac ran a 9.8 at state if my memory is correct~Guthrie was also around a 10 flat man and even better in the 220 dash~Outstanding QB as well in the top flight at WRHS for sure~Gary went on to Troy U. and was a track star~This years team has true grit & heart and We all should be proud of them~They should have beaten EPC and could make the Top 4 this State Meet in progress~They would be Hoxie this year for sure IMHO~

This is just another reason why the two schools should become ONE school and dominate!!! Look at the academic and athletic talent in both schools. The parents in BOTH schools have got to swallow their pride and do what is right for the children and community. We will be one school one day whether it is by choice or the Dept of Education forces us to become one.

I agree and backed Jim Bland before he died when he picked up on my written letter To the Editor proposal in 1993 !!!! Think where we would be now had the old diehards not blocked my proposal~A Major Class 3AAA or 4 AAAA school at Midway Road~Dominating with a top 5 team year after year~Educational leading as well~!!It will be a while now, as both vain leaders in Hoxie and WR continue their Mexican Pissing contest and the kids lose~Some more will have to die out for merger~Of course fiscal restraits from the OBAMANATION GOVERNMENT may force us to from the State Government~

I don't think there have been very many from Walnut Ridge ever make to any division 1 schools. Few have made it to schools like ASU, or some smaller colleges. Walnut Ridge never has been a power house in football and prolly never will. They will have a few seasons like this one this year, but they'll be few and far between. Sorry, just callin it like it is.
