Good spirit boost to both schools, no matter who wins. Don't let the coaches make the decision but the school boards. It does not have to be regularly scheduled game. Play it on Thanksgiving Day or someother time.

The reason the games were put to an end was because of violence! A teenager was run over with a car the last time they played, not to mention windshields busted, fields vandalized. No way.

There was some problems but it doesn't have to be like that forever, geeze. The Civil War ended a long time ago. You are nuts to hold that over our heads forever.

The problem is that it won't end. There are new teenagers and there won't be any consequences for their actions. They had been warned for years and never listened. By the way, it wasn't the coaches decision to end the games, it was both school boards. We are talking human lives. A boy was run over! He is lucky to still be breathing! Teenagers can not fathom the effects of their actions!

This brings me to ask, is our football programs promoting violence off the field? It sounds to me that in place of some off the wall subject that both schools should be given good lessons and test on school violence.

just wandering , if walnut ridge had won the last several games between the two schools , would they still be playing. It seems like as long as walnut ridge is winning they want to play, when they lose they don't .

Jus food for thought, if both schools were consolidated what a great football team that would make!!! Bet we could then beat some of these really tough football programs we have to play.just saying!

I say play ball. We should have an annual contest between the two football teams. Bring out the police, sedate the parents and go for it.

I would be ashamed if I were a school official and I could not control reaction to a high school sports event. I remember the State Police being called in to Swifton, Strawberry and maybe more places at basketball games but it did not stop the games or who they played in the future. Get over it, grow up, stop putting the penalty on our kids for dumb adult jealousies.

Dont start with that crap! You must be one of those die hard Hoxieites. NEW FLASH, we are all over the rivalry and you need to grow up and move on, its people like you trying to keep the pot stirred that causes the issues to begin with.

Really?? Hoxie fans keep the pot stirred? It is comments and attitudes like the above that does that. Their facilities are not filthy. So, whatever.

We played walnut ridge for the last time mr SR year. It's messed up because None of us on the team were involved with any of the mischief that went on. Its all the usual bad kids with an excuse to tear shit up. I thought the games brought a lot of support and character to our township. A good rival is what makes sports great.

That is what it comes down to. Hoxie took nearly a decade of losing to walnut ridge but when Hoxie won for 7-8 years in a row, it was ridiculous for them to keep playing. Another poster commented on someone getting ran over. If its what I'm thinking, it was an accident that happened before the game. Nothing malicious as it was phrased.

I think both of the schools were more spirited when they played each other. I miss those days. We use to parade around town but cheerleaders and football players from both teams would meet up at the old Walmart parking lot and hang out together. We made our snide comments at the game but it was all in good fun. I don't know why it turned so ugly and violent.

Personally, I think this is a bunch of bunk. Their is not likely to be any violence at all. This is a bunch of hype. Let our kids play ball. The ball players will behave. I think everyone else will also. It has been a few years now, so start it up again. If nothing else do a Hoxie/Walnut Ridge All Star team after the season and let them play another All-Star Team.

I like the All Star Team Concept. Would the coaches buy into it?
