Upset Parent

#1 Jan 29, 2013
Is anyone else upset that Hoxie School failed to use the alert system or make any other effort to contact parents about a student having a gun at school? I think the school should have alerted parents BEFORE KAIT8 reported the story! Totally IRRESPONSIBLE on the part of the school!

The answer is not to move your child you have your problems at walnut ridge to I have a scanner and at least once a week or maybe two and they are always calling the police to walnut ridge school because a child is unruly and the principal can not handle them.

I will never move my child to wr I said there are a lot of parents that I know is thinking about. This could have been avoided if they would have sent out a message

Hoxie School handled the situation in the best manner possible. After they recieved info that the student was in possession of the gun they immediately approached the student and retrieved the gun without incident. That particular situation did not constitute notification of parents because there was not an immediate threat and the notification would resulted in total disruption of the learning enviroment for the remainder of the day due to parents rushing the school.

As long as that particular students' parents were notified I don't see what everyone else is so worried about. It was NOT loaded. They took the gun. It was all handled in a professional manner. What would the parents have done? Rushed to the school to get their children AFTER the other child and the gun were off of the premises? Makes a lot of sense to me.

They said it was not loaded but there are kids that saw the clip/bullets to it. They just want to make us think it wasn't loaded. My kids go there and I was very pissed when my son came home and said there was a gun on campus and he was there when they arrested the boy. Then I called the police department and they tried to deny it and tell me to watch the news. I told them no. My child goes there and I have a right to know. Then they decided to tell me about it.

Kids say they seen a bullet and clips huh? It was a single shot break over type pistol. Meaning it had no magazine. Clips are used to load magazines by the way. Kids also said there was a gun at school today but it was all just rumors/gossip just like your clip/bullets. I still say they handled it very well.

Nice of Truxler to send a note home today saying it was a flair gun. The police new what kind of gun it was when the arrest was made. So why didn't they state it was a flair gun on the news. Another way for Truxler to cover his ass. Wonder who he is paying off for this one.
Just my 2 cents

Ok I was going to leave this alone but have heard all I can stand on here and facebook. Look the school handled the situation in the way they saw best not to cause mass confusion and panic. I have kids in Hoxie as well and am thankful that the situation was small and no one got hurt as far as notifacation you were notified there was a press realese on KAIT and imboden live that is a form of notifacation the sms system the school has should only be used in emergency situations. This was a bad situation but NOT a need to cause disruption to the other students that would have unsettled the school for the rest of the week because as soon as the message went out parents would have flodded the school for no good reason. Our kids are safe as can be and we need to thank our school for doing the best they can there have been changes made for safety and I am sure more are in the works.

Now was it a pistol or flare gun? Seems to me someone needs to tell the truth. Schools officials are now saying flare gun. There is a difference. My child would not have been picked up if I got a message stating what had happened and that everything but under control. Now I worry about what would be with held from parents if it were a different situation and for how long.
