I know you just saw a picture of it in the paper recently and are trying to stir up some controversy but... That "big gun" is a M110A2 8" self propelled gun/howitzer with a range of nearly 20 miles. It was the most accurate artillery piece available in Vietman & Iraq and saved a lot of American lives. It was put there by Veterans - for veterans, to honor their service to our country. Virtually every courthouse in the nation has one or more weapons displayed on the grounds to honor their vets. Sorry you're such a REMF & don't respect them or their service and don't even know what it is, but get over it. It is there to stay and looks great looking down Hwy 63 towards Knobel. It is not a museum piece. It is a Veterans Memorial and should be out where folks can see it and be proud of their vets service what ever branch they were or are in.

The airport would be fitting. The gun being moved has nothing to do with not honoring vets. The gun would have not gone there had the court know what they were getting. Also, the airport site would let people walk up to it and enjoy it more. Get off your band wagon. Most newer curthouses do not have tanks or big track guns on them, neither do the older ones. They have memorials like we do, not guns on tracks.

Are you talking about the one at Lawrence county courthouse? If you are I don't think you can look down towards knobel. Correct me if I'm wrong. I like the gun at Lawrence county courthouse -I think it looks good.

It is actually pointed toward Pocahontas! Should leave the courthouse for a more appreciated home.

Take it to the airport if they will take it. Put it on a pad and put up a marker at it that describes what it is and how it was used. Make it better and more recognized.

Shows how much you know. The VFW had to get permission from the Judge and Court to put it there in the first place. They were told and shown exactly what it was before it came.
You can still walk up and view it, no reason you can't. Thousands see it where it is. Hardly any go out to the airport. That might be why "Harold" wants it out there. But I doubt that "Harold" had anything to do with the original posting.
That danged hedge ought to be trimed back a bit more though and it needs a plaque telling folks what it is,what it could do, and where it served. And yes, it is aligned with Highway 34/90 and points toward Knobel, not Pocahontas as some think. Most of WR is not layed out NS/EW

And they didn't even spell "Veterans" correctly on the granite monument at the Courthouse.

How about putting it on the hill at Black Rock overlooking the new bridge? More cars pass there each day than any place else in Lawrence County. The bridge could be called veterans bridge.

Hell the dope heads in that part, would have it cut up and salvaged. I wouldn't put any memorial across that damn bridge!! All the worthless Beatles sh¡t is an exception!! How did the few uneducated folks end up with money in this town. Embarrassing. Stop labeling that damñ town anything but what it is. Instead of "rock&roll highway".. Really should have been like, "shake&bake lane" LMFAO.

Our courthouse looks junkie enough, move the gun elsewhere. Or, melt the sucker down and cast it into a real life size soldier and weapon.

What is it hurting or costing anyone? Does anyone have any idea what it would cost to load and transport it? You are talking several thousands of dollars. I think it is a great display, but should have something explaining its role and history.

Its just not a good place for it, but I would not be for spending county money to move it. The old airfield museum would be a good home for it. Many veterans go there to see the museum and a lot of school groups visit there.

Paint that sucker red and put a big wolf face on one side and a big razorback on the other. Then it will fit.
