I think it's very commendable of you to post the reality that you encountered while you were there. Hopefully, more former inmates like yourself will step forward and at least share there experiences...might not be a bad idea as well to write a letter or email the organizations that are involved...I too hope and pray that they close it down and transfer the ones that are there now to a better, proactive and safer environment. Too bad it has and still is all about money and not about helping and guiding the ones that are exposed to the insanity of it all. Time will tell eh?

You no doubt need some help...until you have valid and actual proof of what happens in there on a daily basis and what those kids are in there for (justly that is), then you have absolutley no right to comment. Apparently, you are perfect and are a believer in the justice system as well as what "society" tell you....

and it doesn't appear that white kids in MS are getting prison time since my experience visiting an inmate there is I'm in a sea of black. Maybe there should be an investigation as to why this is since white kids hugely outnumber black kids in Mississippi (and in every state). That's only the tip of the iceberg into what is wrong with that hell hole. I've been exposed to this place for over 4 years while helping an inmate appeal his WRONGFUL conviction. Incarcerating kids in a place like this is throwing good money after bad, and MS really has the bucks to throw down the drain, rolls eyes. And Leroy, your an ass....

for Joseph Hyde (or others that were in RID): While you were in RID, did you communicate daily with the inmates that were not in the RID program? How much interaction was it daily. Did you have communications with inmates that were younger (age 13-16)than you were. Do you feel that an experience like yours would honestly make a person not get into trouble anymore? Were you able to mentor to a younger inmate?

the race card really my husband is in the rid program n every visit there is as many white guys as black if not more...it may just be the group/ phase he is in if so trust me n the other groups it makes up for it it is not based on race at all...it depends on the crime n age n all that if they g color to rid not color i wish it was that way n no whites that way maybe my husband would be home but its not and though he does have it not the greatest n the world its faster then prison and after doing his time n classification at the real jail he is more then glad to do the time there it may be bad n i want him home bad n they have had issues with flooding n stuff n he has been sick but these guys have it no where near as bad as they would n prison and it would be more dangerous somewhere else and most places dont even feed them like they do there...though i do think that are terrible ppl there that try to break them down when they should be building them up i dont like some comments they make in trying to break my husbamd down but he gets to come home in 8 weeks if somewhere else he would not so before ppl bitch too much they need to think about what consequences would be n how it could be a lot worse hell even the other part not the rid part has it made unlless on lock down n considered a danger to others or theirself then they have it made n they get to callk out everyday if they want so even prisson part has it easy n rid hell its bad but 6 months is better then yearsand to leroy are u even familiar with the rid progrAM most of the guys there are in for violation of probation or something else non violent or not major either the prison part yea but until u been n their shoes u shouldnt judge bc u dont know what they did or why they did it n the bible says not to judge they are still his children n he still doesnt want his children mistreated i by no means think they should be mistreated n to clarify i do think its bad but ppl need to be positive n realize how much worse it could be- xoxo

I am appalled and ashamed at some of the comments on this topic. Unless or until you have someone dear to you "mess up" and go to prison you have not a clue as to what they are living in. Take it from someone who knows your family is NOT immune to this happening to it. Incarceration should be about rehabilitation not abuse.(not speaking of drug rehab) Mississippi has more compassion and humanity for animals than it does for humans.(I am an animal lover so don't jump on me about that one) Yes some are bad.. really bad... but there is no need to starve, beat, allow them to go without medical assistance or abuse anyone. What makes it right for guards to do the very crimes some of these people are in prison for? They too should be held accountable for their actions.

5 years a long time at the grove. It's a place that tries to break your spirit and 5 years is plenty of time to accomplish it in that hell hole. They don't want you to do the right thing, that would reduce the chance of repeat customers, which is what they really want.

As I read these comments...my heart just beats even faster and tears are rolling down my face. 1 to hear how they are mistreated and 2 on how someone can say the inmates deserve this mistreatment. No they dont deserve it, put your self in these inmates and families shoes, and picture it being you. I have a nephew that has bn sentenced there for a charge he didn't commit, and im praying nothing happens to him. So dont say no one deserve this, because they dont and not even an animal need to be beat. In gods name may I pray.....

Where might your back up, justification and valid information? Please let us know on each and every inmate...it appears that you are like everyone else in "society".....jaded and misinformed without having anything to back it up with...

Wow...thank you so much for saying exactly what needs to be said to those who post information that have no experience, nor knowledge, of what truely goes on at WGYCF on a daily basis. And you are absolutely correct in saying that the state of MS rather help an animal than a human being. It saddens me to no end that nothing...absolutely NOTHING has changed at that facility since the allegations began...feel that nothing ever will as GREED AND BUREAUCRACY RULES in today's society. My son has been there for 2 years now and it literally tears me up every day...hearing, reading what he has been through...what goes on there...not to mention if you don't know how to play the CO's game, the gang's game...you will pay a very heavy price..physically and obviously mentally....when will it ever end....will it ever end?

Thanks for posting...thanks for taking a stand against that evil, greed driven, profit makin, cruel, unjust and heartless facility. I pray that you continue to take a stand, talk to the newspaper, contact the Southern Poverty Law Center, Haley Barbour, anyone and everyone...advocate and add to the raw reality of what goes on there....my son has been there 2 years...wrongly sentenced...has 2 more to go and has shared all of his experiences...same as yours is still going on....like he said...if you don't know how to play their mental games..whether its the gangs or the co's or the guards..physical and mental abuse soon follows....sigh....I wish you the best....stay strong and I pray that one day you will not remember that part of your life....

Very well said....that is all that the state, governor, judges, lawyers, prosecutors, police force, GEO Group, employees of Walnut Grove and people like Leroy that posted on here want....repeat customers to continue to support their evil and sadistic ways....I would think that the state of MS would want to improve their recidivism rates drastically....that they would get involved also with FAMM...ha silly me....that again would equate to loss of money for them....I just pray that my son gets through the rest of his time there without getting killed....that is all I can do as nothing else has helped... unfortunately it's truley the "system and the state of MS" against all of us who have ones who are in that facility...money overrules life to them.....

It's a cruel place run for profit not rehabilitation. The inmates are treated like dogs. From my own experience helping an inmate there file his appeals MOST of the inmates in there are not murderers, rapists or pediphiles(sp?). Many are there on mandatory sentences involving drugs, victimless offenses. Many were in high school, a time in kids lives that involves youthful indiscretions such as experimenting with drugs and sex. Many are in there for sexual offenses with someone of their peer group but not far apart enough in age to be legal under MS statutes, but are not creepy old men going after little girls. Just teenagers. As teenagers grow up and mature, they outgrow the behavior that got them locked up in that hell hole. But society is intolerant and chooses punishments that permanently throw these young people off track. Felony records, sex offender lists, institutionalization, broken spirit, brand new swagger many never had upon arrival. It's the worst that can happen to the inmate and society which foots the bill and the best that can happen for the prison companies, paid for repeat customers, a revolving door from kiddy pen to adult pen. I've seen many of the inmates there when I've gone to visitation. I didn't see hardened, scary criminals, I saw alot of kids who screwed up. Society wants it to be permanent. MS seems to like to throw good money after bad, prison for everyone. The bottom of the list for education. I guess they like it that way.
