Teacher accused of abuse

The allegations are startling if not sickening: two preschool special education aides accused of pulling hair, name-calling, force-feeding, yelling, poking and other abuses during the 2003-04 school year. Full Story

Will it ever end? The only reason Chump Chesley is still in Bethel is because nobody else will hire him based on his sketchy past track record.

Yet, test scores have improved, and the school is much better run now than under Gil-Crust... in spite of the past. Then again we have a president whose past drug use would prevent him from becoming an FBI agent

So, everysingle person who ever had a conversation with, knew or worked near that pervert is just as guilty as if they were the offender?

What's your point? or more specifically, what axe are you grinding. Would you come out of your closet and identify yourself?

I assume this is all because the BOE is asking $50 a year more per household for its budget.

Read the next few posts, old news. You will see Chesley was more than just an acquaintance of James Davis. He hired the convicted child molester in St. Louis and brought him with him to Colorado, knowing he had already been charged with sex crime in Missouri.

The Denver Post, May 25, 1991, Page 1A: The principal at Eaglecrest High School told
parents yesterday he had "no prior knowledge of any wrongdoing" by James M. Davis,
the school dean arrested this week on suspicion of plying a male student with drugs and
alcohol before se*xually molesting him. Principal Gary Chesley made the statement in a
letter sent home with all 1,650 Eaglecrest students on the day after Davis' arrest. The
incident was the latest in a series to rock the high school, which opened just last fall. Last
week, Chesley announced his resignation after a controversy over his ext ra-marital affair
with an Eaglecrest music teacher.

Also from Denver Post, 5/25/91:

In an interview yesterday, Chesley said he was "stunned" at the allegations against Davis,
a longtime colleague, even though similar accusations were made by two Missouri youths
shortly after Davis was hired as Eaglecrest dean of students last August. Chesley said he
and other Cherry Creek officials did everything possible to determine the seriousness of
the claims that Davis had sexual relationships with students and recent graduates of a
Missouri high school.

Davis and Chesley worked together for nine years in the Parkway School District, in the
suburbs west of St. Louis. Chesley left for Eaglecrest in 1989. Davis, with Chesley's
encouragement, followed a year later.

The Denver Post, May 26, 1991, Page 1C: The storyline has gone from sex- farce to sickening depravity. Parents have gone ballistic.
Last February, Principal Gary Chesley revealed his extramarital affair with a music teacher at the school, prompting much ado about moral rectitude. The controversy also amplified amorous innuendo about another Eaglecrest educator and someone at the district office - again, both married - which in turn raised speculation about the aphrodisiac effect of working downwind from a toxic dump.
There was enough sex scandal to turn the school paper into a supermarket tabloid. But then the news turned from merely tawdry to downright terrifying. Although Chesley survived the flap and was retained as principal, he abruptly quit last week. But weeks before his resignation, he advanced the Eaglecrest minidrama by calling Arapahoe County sheriff's deputies to keep the peace when the district removed Jim Davis, the
aforementioned dean of students.
Speculation held that Davis was dealing in dope. Further investigation produced charges that he'd given a 15-year-old male student money to buy marijuana and other drugs. And then, over spring break, Davis took the kid to Estes Park for three days, deceiving the boy's parents by telling them it was a "teacher-student motivational learning trip."
Authorities now formally charge Davis with pushing a more sinister curriculum: sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Similar allegations involving students had surfaced at his previous job in a St. Louis suburb, where he'd worked alongside Chesley. Two boys told police they'd been victimized, but one declined to press charges and the other incident occurred outside the cops' jurisdiction. Cherry Creek learned of these allegations last fall but, citing the absence of formal charges in St. Louis, investigated no further until trouble surfaced at Eaglecrest.
Much too in a tumultuous spring that wreaked havoc and undermined parental trust,
Chesley and Davis finally are history.

According to the article below, Chesley and Davis were more than just co-workers, "old news." In fact, Chesley recruited Mr. Davis to come to Colorado, knowing his past:

The Denver Post, July 11, 1991, Page 2B: The Cherry Creek school board has appointed
a Jefferson County educator to become principal at Eaglecrest High School. Terry S. Conley's appointment followed unanimous support from a screening committee comprising Eaglecrest parents, staff and students. Conley has been a principal at three Jefferson County high schools and one junior high school. For the last six years, he has been the principal at Chatfield High School.

Conley replaces Gary Chesley, who resigned last spring after presiding over the school's first year of operation. Chesley was widely praised for his administrative and educational know- how, but ran into trouble with parents and students when it was disclosed he was having an extra- marital affair with a teacher. In May, the dean of students hired by Chesley was charged Larimer County with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

The Denver Post, November 9, 1991, Page 1B: A Cherry Creek high school student yesterday sued the district for $2 million, claiming administrators could have prevented him from being sexually molested by a former dean of students at Eaglecrest High School. The civil rights complaint, filed yesterday in U.S. District Court, also names former Eaglecrest principal Gary Chesley as a defendant.

Both Chesley and the district, the suit alleges, were "forewarned" that former dean of students Jim Davis had been implicated in sexual assaults in a St. Louis suburb. District authorities, the suit alleges, "failed and omitted to warn" either the student or his parents about "Davis and his alleged propensities."

The Denver Post, January 7, 1992, Page 2B: Jury selection began yesterday in the sexual assault trial of James Michael Davis, a former dean of students at Cherry Creek's Eaglecrest High School. Davis is accused of plying a 15- year old with alcohol and marijuana, then fondling the boy during a motivational retreat in Estes Park last March…

The Cherry Creek School District also faces a $2 million civil suit filed by the Eaglecrest High School student and his parents. They allege school administrators knew of similar allegations against Davis in St. Louis and "failed and omitted to warn" them. Davis and former Eaglecrest High School Principal Gary Chesley worked together in Missouri for nine years before Chesley hired Davis at Eaglecrest. Chesley is on the list of possible witnesses in Davis' criminal trial.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, March 27, 1992, Page 7A: The School Board of Belleville West High School voted Thursday night to rescind the contract of Gary Chesley, who had been hired earlier this month as principal of the school.

Chesley, of Centreville, Va., is a former principal of Parkway Central High School. He had left his previous job as principal of Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colo., after admitting publicly that he had engaged in an extramarital affair with a married female music teacher.

School district Superintendent Robert Dosier said the school board voted 5-2 to rescind the contract after a lengthy executive session. Some parents attending the public meeting demanded that the board rescind Chesley’s contract. About 350 people attended the meeting. Chesley, 41, was to start work at Belleville West on July 1 at an annual salary of $68,000. He would have replaced Jerry Turner, who is retiring after 24 years.

Chesley also had been criticized for recruiting a former soccer coach at Parkway Central to work
at Eaglecrest. The coach was later convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, April 4, 1992, Page 2B: Gary Chesley's career as principal of Belleville West High School didn't last long. His contract was withdrawn before he even started work because residents were unhappy over his less-than-pristine background. But the furor teaches two worthwhile lessons: School officials must be
above reproach in their personal lives, and school boards should be more open in their
searches for administrators.

Mr. Chesley is a former high school principal in the Parkway School District who most recently headed the Eaglecrest School in Aurora, Colo. There, he admitted involvement in an affair with a married teacher. The sex scandal was featured in a tabloid television show that hardly helped his reputation. He also was tarred by recruiting to Colorado from Parkway a man who was later convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old male student.

Given that background, residents of Belleville Township High School District 201 were understandably upset when their board suddenly announced Mr. Chesley had been chosen as principal of Belleville West, despite his past. Hundreds of people attended a School Board meeting last week to protest the selection. At first board members acted as if Mr. Chesley's hiring was a done deal that they could do nothing about. But later, in a closed session, they voted to rescind the job offer. That decision was correct. Students must be able to respect the person in charge of their school, and Mr. Chesley was far from the best role model.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, July 17, 1992, Page 3A: Gary Chesley, an education consultant from Virginia, has filed suit against Belleville's high school district for withdrawing a job offer as principal of Belleville Township High School West. In a suit filed Wednesday in circuit court in Belleville, Chesley contends the district owes him a year's salary,$68,000. The school board says it owes nothing because the verbal offer
was withdrawn before the written contract reached Chesley in Virginia.

The board voted March 23 to hire Chesley but withdrew the offer three days later in a storm of controversy over Chesley's past. He had an affair with a married teacher while serving as principal of a middle school in Aurora, Colo., and recruited a dean who was later convicted of sexually assaulting a 15- year-old male student.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, November 21, 1992, Page 4A: Controversial Principal Hired In Connecticut: Gary Chesley, the former Parkway principal who sued a Belleville school district when it reneged on hiring him, has landed a job in Connecticut. Chesley left his post at Parkway Central High School in 1990 to take a principal's job at Eaglecrest High School in Aurora, Colorado. Chesley came under fire there, first for
having had an extramarital affair with a teacher, and second for having hired a soccer coach from Parkway who later was accused of molesting some students at Parkway and later in Aurora.

Chesley resigned after the allegations against the coach became public. This spring, the Belleville Township High School District hired Chesley, a Belleville native, as principal of Belleville West. But the board backed down in the face of public protest and withdrew the offer. Chesley sued the school district for $68,000. The matter was settled out of court in August for $10,000.

not defending 1992 behaviors in 2009, calling it something that matt paulsen would drag up this time every year.

it's all old news, no doubt the BOE has heard it and considers 1992 irrelevant in 2009

Dr Chesley was not the one implicated in any assault

and be real, a lot of people cheat, not all get caught, and that's irrelevant to his performance as an administrator

so can you dig up some more recent news, say after 2005 that implicates Chesley? If not, stuff it!
