WALLINGFORD- Since Mayor William W. Dickinson is running unopposed this year, the Quinnipiac Chamber of Commerce decided to include Town Council candidates in its forum Thursday at the Wallingford Senior Center, held in advance of the Nov. 3 election. The forum was attended by 13 council candidates: seven Democrats- incumbents Vincenzo Di Natale, Nick Economopoulos and Vincent Testa, as well as Don Harwood, Robert Gross, John Sullivan and Geno Zandri - and six Republicans - incumbents Jerry Farrell Jr., John Le Tourneau, Robert Parisi and Rosemary Rascati, and Vincent Cervoni and Craig Fishbein. The candidates expressed their individual views on business-related topics and fielded a prepared question from the chamber's moderator. Fishbein, a newcomer to the Republican's ticket and local attorney, said he thought Wallingford needs to develop a strong, intertwined, self-sustaining relationship amongst its current businesses. "It's always been my credo to buy local. We have to buy local in order to stimulate job growth," Fishbein said. "I think that that is the key to everything here, to our economy. We can't worry about what's going on on the national level- we have to control our own economy locally." DiNatale, co-owner of Ives Road Wine and Spirits, said he favors the town exploring ways to avoid a tax increase in the coming year, including possibly taking more money from its reserves and funneling it into the budget. While Cervoni, an attorney who ran unsuccessfully for a spot on the council in 2007 on the party's ticket, said he wanted to explore ways to attract more businesses to town, which he felt would lower taxes for residents. But Harwood, who serves as director of operations for Bristol- Myers Squibb, said he felt the town couldn't merely look to private business to cover the tax burden. "I think we all are going to be dealing with a lot of counting," Dickinson said. "We're in difficult times and I don't think that should be lost on local government - it shouldn't be lost on any level of government - but these are serious times and we have to count every dollar." Candidate forums featuring the mayor, school board and council candidates will be held Oct. 21 and 22 in Town Hall, 45 S. Main St., at 6:30 p.m. They are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Cheshire/Wallingford and the Wallingford Junior Woman's Club.

I am new to Wallingford, I don't believe any person should be in office this long. I totally disagree with the Dems in Congress and the Senate but when someone is in office this long it is time for them to leave. It is like New Haven which has a Democrat Mayor for over 40 years, the party in charge has total control. The Democrats ought to be ashamed not to run anybody for Mayor. I did not vote for Obama and I am glad. I thinks he is doing a rotten job. I don't know the Mayor or what he believes in or does. I do know the City of Wallingford does not have information on the net for it's residents like other cities. You cannot email anyone. There are only phone numbers on the Wallingford page. It is stupid to deny access to residents for town information like taxes, appraisal info etc. I have to watch the local tv station to see who is on what board. This should not be. The information and minutes should be on the net. It is time for a change and Wallingford to catch up with the times. A new Mayor might do that.

this mayor has been in place for many years for one reason, he treats taxpayers money as if it was his. Mayor Dickinson has been a great asset to this town, as I see he has no political ambitions except town of wallingford, his salary is too low, but he never complains. He is asset to wallingford, and town is lucky to have this respectable and outstanding person to represent us. I don't think a change of leadership just based on his tenure is a factor. He has done outstandind job for wallingford and if you are new to wallingford research this town and compare it to any surrounding towns.....then call the mayor he has open door policy. Find a flaw in his management and tell mee... it is only minor flaw, Mayor Dickinson is a politician most only pray for

You sound like you been drink the cool aid. I have lived in a coupld of towns the last few years. Politicians are generally alike all for them selves. Just because some one pay is low does not mean they do not get lots of benefits. I saw the Mayor's answer to Mr Hogan on TV when Hogan complained about the people not being able to get tax information and having to go to the town hall to get it instead of the net. The Mayor gave some lame statement about security and hacking and privcacy. Guildord and North Branford are two towns to check out. You can pay your takes on line, email departments etc. The public records are not about privacy. It is about information. As long as leaders of a town do not want people to get information and get it quickly I think they have motives should be questioned.Everyone needs prayer not just politicans that deliver results for a specific reason.

I live in wallingford for about 4 years now and am a registered voter. The parties have done nothing to sway or even get my vote. Here it is election day and I have no info presented to me on who to vote for.
I know I can go and seek it but should not that burden be on the parties running?

Well I live in Wallingford and I still do know know who won. I know Mayor Dickinson did because no one ran against him. The only info I got was from a local access station and I believe more Repbulicans voted so I do not think the Charger changes passed. I don't understand why Wallingford has no internet access or ways to contact the Town of Wallingford over the net, pay your taxes etc because of no internet access. You cannot find out the minutes of meeting, Town Council, or Board info and more. They use the public access channels as the medium to get the information that they want you to know. We even have to listen to liberal Public Radio on one of these local tv stations I don't know which one scrolls info. Channel 18,19 & 20 are local access. You can go to Jason Zandri's site on the internet, he post videos of the Town Council meeting and videos of the candidates running being questioned by different people. It appeard the people to ask the question where TOLD who that had to ask the next question. No one could ask the same question of another candidate. It was not the way anyone could find out who best to vote for. To me it was a disaster accept for a young girl who asked very good questions but could only ask one candidate. Well it is over.
