“This is an horrific crash site”
A tanker truck carrying diesel fuel northbound on I-95 Friday morning barreled through the median divider and collided with oncoming traffic, killing three people and seriously injuring three others. 'There are folks that left their families this morning,' a shaken state police Sgt. Richard Crooks said from the scene. 'They are traveling down the road. The next thing, life is over.' All lanes of the Connecticut Turnpike (I-95) - one of the state's busiest and deadliest highways - were shut down in both directions between exits 74 and 75 after the 10:19 a.m. crash. State police reopened a single northbound lane about 6 p.m. Read more

Power Rock in Wallingford from Lesbian
Members of the Seattle band Lesbian - all men - say the name of the group evokes 'sexually charged freedom,' a building block of rock. But there's nothing sexy about Lesbian's music: It's thick, sludgy doom metal of the finest kind.
Formed in 2004 from pieces of several other Pacific Northwest bands, Lesbian took until this year to release its riff-centric debut, 'Power Hor.' Although it's only four songs long, the album clocks in at more than an hour, and the songs shift through bursts of speed and blasts of psychedelia. Read more

“I have been studying [Islam] since 1951”
The end of Ramadan, a monthlong period of fasting and reflection, was particularly joyful for members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community this year because they celebrated it at their new mosque in South Meriden. The ceremony, called Eid ul Fitr or simply Eid, took place Saturday at the Baitul Aman mosque, which until being purchased by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in April, had been a Jehovah's Witnesses hall. 'Before we purchased the mosque we used to meet at the Hungarian Club hall in Wallingford,' said Dr. Sohail Husain, an assistant professor at the Yale University School of Medicine, and the mosque's information director. In terms of work, Husain said very little needed to be done, with the biggest renovation being the erection of a long curtain to divide the hall into separate sides for men and women. Soon after moving into their new building, Husain said the members went out into the neighborhood to introduce themselves and present residents with a small gift (chocolates), which is their custom.
