Deadly Sword Attack Kills Man, 20

A 20-year-old man has died while undergoing care for injuries suffered when he was attacked with a sword, police said.

My friend was the one that was killed and I think its crazy that this kid is only being charged with assault 1st! His bond was only $100,000. Wallingford has arrested kids for selling weed and gave them higher bonds... seriously, I am not even over exagerating!

He's been CHARGED, not convicted. And he was "only" charged with assault because they have almost nothing on him. He was present, and involved in some fighting, that's all they can prove.
I know of 4 eyewitnesses, who actually saw it happen, who say it wasn't him who slashed Shane with the sword. The whole scene was absolute chaos. There are many statements to be taken before they get to the bottom of it.

the saddest part about all this is that the cause for the fight had NOTHING to do with shane. he was there for his "boys" and he was slashed with a samori sword and died because of it. the fight was for a real stupid reason. people don't think anymore. I hope these people feel quilty for bringin shane into a stupid fight he didn't belong in and look what happened! also that kid better get a good amount of jail time if not charged with murder.

I don't know the details or people involved, but from what I've read or heard, the kids from Wallingford pulled out knives and other weapons first. This wasn't an accident. It was a scheduled fight. Whether you are there "for your boys" or whatever that dumb argument was, he went there to see or be part of a fight. That puts you in the middle of it whether you want it or not. Thats his fault for hanging out with these kind of people. Im sure he was a good kid at heart, but it just goes to show that "good kids" are stuck in the same schools and violent world as all the "bad kids". They get into a chaotic position watching a large fight and didn't think of the consiquences. Parents need to be more involved with their kids lives so this sort of thing doesn't happen. What was the cause for the fight anyway, a girl or something? And from the other side, why the hell is there a sword at a fight in the first place. This just shows how stupid kids are getting. When I was in high school, not that long ago, we fought with fists not knives and guns. Live to fight another day. I pray for the boys' parents and families.

Theres always two sides to every story..I have deep sympathy for bith of the families. But to all of the young adults who knew them you knew of the drugs the violence the jail the hatred that he had. I hope that instead of making comments you would stop the drugs the voilence the hatred and change your lifes around, This could have been you wake-up!!! Why did crystal take 2 and a half hours to take hime to the hospital. And latestest rumer Shane was the wrong person and over a girl?? Yes I hope Shane is in a better place for it has to better than the life he chose.HE CHOSE not the ones who loved him as his blood family but the ones who we his drug buddies voilence buddies etc. I hope that many of you will try to turn your lifes around before something like this happens to you. And parent thank god you are not my chrildren.!!!!

First of all if you don't know the story and you don't really know shane than you really don't know what your talking about. Shane Richard Smith was an kind harted person who loved his family and life. He was there for everone who matered to him and didn't care about those who didn't. It doesn't matter who caused the fight, who was invovled, or who was on drugs. All that matters that Shane was struck by a sword and he died. We love him and all he would have wanted was for his family and friends to live long, filled, drug free lives.

Don't know the facts, not even sure what happened. I do know it's a tremendous waste of two lives, possibly more, taking falmilies into account. The false bravado of friends posting here seems a little out of place, especially the threats. Some supposed eyewitnesses say one thing, others another. Maybe everyone should wait for the facts to come out.
