Being a parent in Walla Walla Valley with children in the public school system, involved in sports and so forth it is daunting to hear about the fundraisers of cookie dough and other contradictory items that go along with what we teach our children about eating healthy and making the right choices. I was approached the other day by a local woman about a fundraising opportunity and it got me to thinking, why are we not doing this for our kids already!!??? It is a natural snack company her website is www.snackhealthy.com/missmel . The company offers a fundraising program for schools, sports, and churches among a few others as well , I think. In any case I don't know what the odds are of anyone seeing this but thought I would throw it out there , we need fundraisers like this that promote healthy habits !!

Hope,
It sounds, at least on the surface, like a great idea. The problem with those kinds of fundraisers is that they are expensive. You end up paying twice the price for a product so that 50% or less goes to the actual fund raisers.

I would suggest that you can make healthy snacks, cookies or other items at home (which means the families absorb the overhead) and teach the kids how to make the healthy snacks so that as adults they don't bother buying the junk that most do.

The other side of the coin is that the state is supposed to fund education. If they aren't doing that then we need to address our lawmakers to fulfill their obligation. That will also teach our children that "we, the people", are the power behind the government and not the subjects.
