Education has always been the cornerstone to success. If we want these offenders to be ready for the "real world" they do need to be educated. They are less likely to re-offend if they have the education and skills needed to be a success in society. Please remember, these are people who have a family, who do the best they can to keep their loved one hopeful about the future, the education they receive in "correction's" is prudent to all of us!

In reference to the idiot who wants the state to stop educating the inmates while incarcerated. I don't know who you are and what kind of person you are but the correctional center in Connell is not a max unit these are not harden criminals. They made a mistake and are paying their debt to society.

There are programs set in place to assist them in ways you will NEVER understand and like most people out here walking free need but are to stupid like you to know. I suggest you take a minute and read up on your own issues before you judge someone else. There are a lot of things going on in this world because of people like you. I hope none of your relatives end up in situations where narrow minded people like you are in charge. You should be a shame of your self.

I can't agree more with the comment above. Walk in someone elses shoes for a while. If you had a loved one incarcerated and knew the truth about how the inmates are treated and what kind of slop they get for meals and the way they are treated my some CO's and other inmates you would certainly change your tune. There are packages of food that has "not for human consumption" on it that is fed to the inmates on a daily basis. Any inmate that does not have outside support may have a job that pays 41cents an hour with anywhere from 35 to 90 percent taken out for various reasons. That does not leave any money for them to buy food off store. If they are released the way they were sent in they are set up to fail. Educating inmates is a way to cut down on the revolving door of our prison system. If they don't have college classes available then they can learn a trade by working, although it is hard to get a good job at most facilities. They will at least have some kind of skill when they are released and just maybe they will use that and not re-offend. I am so tired of people saying how good inmates have it, with TV and cable, 3 meals a day and a warm place to sleep. Tel that to inmates that sleep on the floor because there are no beds. Our system is broke and needs to be fixed and people like you are a lot of the problem.

Sad to see someone with such a cold heart, and even less understanding. We need more education programs not less.

A lot of people resent the money spent to educate inmates but a lot of items are donated as well. A great place to see if you can donate your books to a prison is: http://www.writeaprisoner.com/books-behind-ba... . Help inmates NOT go back to prison!
