I was Bart's professor at Saint Mary's College. I knew in our first class that he would be a very accomplished poet. I was almost wrong. He became a very accomplished novelist.
I have read all his novels. We are still friends (he lives an hour south and west of my farm in northern California) and we celebrate life together every chance we have and don't have.
He deserved every word of praise you offer and several thousand more. Bless you. He is already blessed.

In my earlier comment I forgot to add that in the '50s, in Berkeley, Tom McGrath and his wife were close friends of mine.
No more humane human ever lived. Bart's tribute to the man illustrates Bart's own humanity.
