I am James Mother, James is Bipolar, they used to call it Manic Depressive. He was diagnosed last year, this is hard for some people to accept, and James has never wanted to take pills. He would not even take an aspirin for a headache. He said he had recently found God, and was happy. He always wanted a home in the mountains and he and his wife
loved their new home in Laurel Hill. He and Avie have been together 12 years, getting married in April four years ago. James took a trip Saturday before last with he and Avie on their motorcycles. I believe that someone slipped him something, this of course is conjecture on my part. But he called me on the trip and was cycling badly (both elated and sobbing in the same sentence). He wanted help and I looked up the South Carolina dual diagnosis in Greenville. Avie walked out because she was afraid he was going to use the gun on himsself. By the way, the gun was a legal one..Avie is very honest. She called 911, the crisis team that responded was wonderful, they must be very well trained. A Woman officer, called me and I told her about James, the Bipolar, and that he needed detoxed and on his Bipolar meds. This is not like James, he had not slept in three days. The Swat or crisis team was at the bottom of his driveway about a half mile down the road, and let me say again they used wise heads, patient heads. My admiration for them knows no bounds. They saved my boy. One officer said "he's not shooting at us mam he's just shooting. I thought the robot was a wonderful piece of police equipment. Small towns usually are pretty nice and Walhalla must be very special, I am so sorry for all the people that had to leave their homes during this night. Suzanne Pyles
