Too many parents are more interested in being their childrens buddies. They want to live vicariously through their children.Their job is to be a parent, not a kid.Kids have many friends, but only two parents.Until Booneville decides what it wants for it's children, nothing will happen. There have to be rules of conduct that are not negotiable. No matter who you are! They have to be consistent and not changed on a whim.Until this happens there will be no order and no saftey.Parents in the past were as concerned about a conduct grade as an academic one. Most schools don't even have conduct grades anymore!By the way!the world is not and never will be a fair place.Only when we are hooked up short do we learn the discipline necessary to be successful. That's why the second and third generations of a very sucessful family seldom live up to their past. They weren't allowed to learn the hard lessons of experience."Self-esteem and discipline can't be achieved by talks and mottos. It has to be earned!Everyone talks of "Pete&Cy".We had 25 years or so that we were very highly regarded throughout the state.People would come here to see how we did things. They didn't bend and held to their principles no matter what. They fought many battles. They didn't worry about the changing winds of popularity.Don't tell me they weren't respected!Maybe even a little feared. What's wrong with that? It's amazing that students returning to B.H.S. always want to see the teachers who were the toughest and demanded the most from them.Maybe they realize the teachers cared enough about them to demand thier best. The fact is,kids are kids. They will rise to the occasion when it is demanded! We need to worry more about how our children act than the grades they make.I don't care how smart you are,if you don't know how to act you're not going far.Remember kids are not adults.Research tells us that it takes until 25 years of age to be physically and mentally mature. That does't mean to be cruel. There has to be compassion. There is a difference between compassion and concesson.Remember, children are natural born lawyers. If you don,t believe that you have no children. One last thing! About a month before her passing Mrs.Mary Nell Prewitt said that Steve Halter reminded her so much of "Pete".

Do you think SH or BA would have put in the newspaper that a student violated policy, but wasn't going to be punished? Or go back further
do you think Mr. P or Mr U would have said "oh, it's ok just let the kids have their fun, it's harmless, Momma approved so should we."

they way i see it, if they areen't goind to punish this kid, they aren't going to punish my kid either. i'll just say he used bad judgement and remind them that just because we can punish someone doesn't mean we have to. you'll never punish any of my kids this year and other parents should feel the same. nwhy don't you just save the school lots of money by not even giving us a handbook.

now the parents sue you if you paddle their kids. thats to bad because the fear of a paddling along with the fear of what my parents would do when they found out i had misbehaved at school kept me from messing up many times.

Don't be too sure !!! It depends on who you are as to what happens to your kid. Now that's the truth.

that is only one of the many injustices that occur every day at the high school. i know this they better not punnish my child for anything. if i think its bad enough i will punnish her. i will sue their ass if the school disciplines her and i hate law suits however they give me no choice

Yes it is. And it's held under the same handbook rules as regular school session. YOUR KIDS HAVE TO DO WHAT THEY ARE TOLD TO DO OR SUFFER CONSEQUENCES.

The summer school incident was a student who had their cell phone out checking the time, not texting or using the phone. The teacher took the phone away and at the end of the day another student gave the phone back to the student. The student went ahead and took the phone not really thinking anything about it because they were told they could have the phone back at the end of day. They were given an office referral and kicked out of summer school. Bring a knife to school, rules get changed, and get one day suspension. Seems fair doesn't it??? Why can rules be changed for one student but not for another??

According to the schools handbook a knife is listed as a weapon and discipline for bringing a knife to school is immediate expulsion. I believe this is mandated by Federal law. But when the student in question brings a knife to school, the board has a meeting and changes the rule for this student, suspending the student for ONE day, yet kicks another student out of summer school because they checked the time on a cellphone? That seems fair(sarcasm). The school adminsitrators at BHS go on and on about how they must follow the rules but all I have seen is how they talk out of both sides of their mouth. Apparently there is a double standard at our school in Booneville and I am quite sure that is not what we want our children learning. It is hard to educate these kids when you will kick them out of school over checking the time on a phone. I mean, come on, a knife compared to a phone. Give me a break!
