Charles and Calvert counties are two of the richest counties of their size in the nation, according to a new report from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Not only are we one of the richest counties, but our poverty rate has fallen from 6.4% to 4.7% over the last two years.

Sounds good to me. I don't live in Maryland but I follow the local news, etc. I have family who live in Charles County. It looks like a beautiful and clean county. The area seems to be truly concerned about keeping the area naturalized by not allowing too much development. Charles County seems to have a good balance between housing development and maintaining wooded areas for habitat. Property taxes seem extremely high to me, but not higher than the surrounding areas. Schools appear to be highly rated. The counties are located nearby to the DC area for plenty of employment opportunies. I think the area would benefit greatly from a Metro rail system located near Waldorf.

Stand by for higher taxes. Liberals just love it when everyone's income goes up so they can take a bigger bite out of it. I'd move out of this money pit run by shady characters, but I can't afford to because my taxes are too high.

Really? This must focus mainly on those areas south of La Plat...cuz anything north is just an extension of PG county. Don't worry La Plata, you'll have this same opportunity in 3-5 years. The county gov't has tried to keep Waldorf ghetto and it has succeeded...what a shame! I am sure this use to be a good place, but it's getting worse by the year...and like I said, the trash (both literally and figuratively) is blowing South.

One last question: Why doesn't Waldorf have a local gov't (Mayor, City Council, etc?)

LOL someone didn't do a very good job on their report apparently!! I live in charles county and if provety rate did drop, it is only because they all are getting somekind of help, like section 8 that seems to be very popular around here..

And A viewer must be thinking of another county cause in the last few years this area has become far from beautiful and all.. And the nice wooded area we all had behind our houses 5 years ago are now replaced with a busy four lane road making it a pain to get out of our own community! And at least 50%+ of the other wooded areas from waldorf to laplata have been replaced with more houses/hotels/shopping centers/etc. making what use to be a nice area to live now an over populated place no better than a few of the not so nice places in PG county and DC.. Calvert county however is still decent in most areas but giving the trend around here, probably won't be for long if they do things like PG and charles county does!!
