Waldoboro Cruiser Hits Pedestrian in Crosswalk
#1 Sep 4, 2007
I first read about this incident in the Courier Gazette. That article included the statement that charges would most likely NOT be brought against Officer Curtis. I hope this proves to be untrue. If Maine law states that pedestrians have the right of way in marked crosswalks, then ANY driver whose vehicle strikes a pedestrian in a crosswalk MUST be held accountable, and charged thusly. If Officer Curtis is not charged, then this law becomes unenforceable. Our police should be setting the example for us citizens, not expecting to receive special treatment. In this country, NO ONE should be above or immune from the consequences of existing laws.
